Lovely rooms, excellent food (especially the breakfasts), stunning views of Etna and the sea, but above all customer service/attitude of the highest quality. You feel really spoiled and pampered. Helpful over travel/restaurants/parking/trips - feels like a true home from home. Do not miss if you go to Taormina.

Villa Ducale is the epitomy of a boutique hotel. It is full of character, homely yet elegant, and stylish but not pretentious or fussy. There is much that could be said about its delightful setting, the sublime view and the delicious breakfasts and teas, but its greatest asset is its staff. Never have I experienced a better balance between efficiency, courtesy, and warmth of welcome. We loved this place and I almost needed a crowbar to lever my wife out of it

Villa Ducale ( Duke's Villa ) was the highlight of our trip to Sicily. All the staff are very professional and warm. The ambience is really wonderful. The room we stayed in was beautiful and romantic. The toiletries in the bathroom were 1st class. The restaurant is divine from sunrise to sunset + the views are to die for but we had a few issues sitting in the front left of the restaurant with cigarette smoke wafting in from the designated smoking table at the side and from the bedroom tables below !!!
Villa Ducale is a 5 minutes drive up the hill from the centre of Taormina but not a problem as hotel has a free shuttle bus. It is good to book a space early in either direction as taxis are about 20 euros and walking uphill is a challenge. Taormina town is car free and there are only 2 certain designated parking spots which are not cheap.
Ergo keep car in hotel car park ( which isn't big so be careful when the car hire company offers you the "stationwagon" special !! For 2 people I would recommend a Lancia Ypsilon. Also make sure you have zero excess because most of the car mirrors in Taormina are kaput ! )
Apart from the cigarette smoke coming into the restaurant, we found Villa Ducale delightful and shall return next year.

Room Tip: They are all good but try and find out if there is a non-smoking section as we couldn't sit on the lounger outside our bedroom as our "neighbour" was chain-smoking.

My son is studying in England for his junior year abroad, and thought Sicily would be an interesting destination for a week. He was certainly right, and Taormina served as a fine travel base and destination onto itself. It is a very beautiful town, perched high up (as are many towns in Sicily), overlooking the coastline, Ionian Sea and Mt. Etna. The view is memorable, and so was our experience at the stunning Villa Ducale. Upon arrival, the hotel staff does an excellent job of orientation, allowing one to feel relaxed and comfortable in our new enviornment. Any question or request I had was attended to in a very professional and friendly manner, and always to my satisfaction. The breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening appetizers are included, and were all delicious and plentiful, served on a beautiful terrace. We enjoyed reading there, in anticipation of the delectable food to come as did many other guests. We got to chat with other guests on the terrace which was a lot of fun.
We travelled for a few days to the other side of Sicily, and my son and I both said that we were looking forward to our return to Villa Ducale. Being away those few days reinforced the extraordinary ambience, beauty and service, all hallmarks of Villa Ducale.

Room Tip: View of sea and Etna a must.

We can only say it again: what a wonderful place. It spoiled us for every other place we stayed in Sicily. The hotel (more of an inn, really) was beautiful, the views spectacular, the staff so warm and helpful, you felt like you’d made friends there in only a few days. We were welcomed right away with a prosecco and oriented to the hotel and the town in the most relaxed and personable way. At first we were concerned about being far above town, but we walked down once (and it was really not difficult) and took advantage of their shuttle service after that. We ate out the first night, but then the next two nights at the hotel, which were both great. The first time we ordered a “special dinner” with fish they bought that day at the market cooked in salt and it was wonderful from start to finish--special compliments and hugs to Santina, the chef, who claimed her cooking was just that of a “Sicilian mamma” -- would love to live in her house! We also ate there another night from the regular menu, and that was fine too. It was just lovely to eat on their terrace with the view of the town below and Mt. Etna in the distance. And, not to obsess on the food, the breakfasts were quite astounding with a huge table of sweets and one of savories, that included not just breads, but things like a variety of wonderful cooked vegetable dishes and a frittata--and more we can’t remember. And on top of that, hot dishes including eggs and bacon and a savory torte--something for everyone and more than any of us should be eating! Our room was lovely, with both a balcony and a terrace, and everything was immaculate and charming. We’d just missed an eruption of Mt. Etna that morning and there was a little dust in the room as a result; we were not that concerned, but they were horrified and immediately sent someone in to clean it up. One got the impression that the staff were part of the owner’s family and they all had a personal stake in the service at the hotel--really quite unique. Thanks to everybody for a great stay!

Room Tip: The view is the thing.
