“Our vacation in Taormina 25 Aug - 4 Sep 2011”
Reviewed 18 September 2011

If my wife and I come back to Taormina we would certainly stay in this hotel again.
Getting there: taxi from Catania airport. The hotel can provide a car to meet you from Catania airport and bring you back to the airport - the cost of one way ride is 90 Euros any time of the day. Unfortunately we learned this only next day after our arrival. You will have to call hotel and ask for this service one day before your flight. We probably were cheated by a "very friendly" taxi driver from Catania airport and paid him by taximeter 195 Euros for the ride from Catania to Taormina (he asked if taximeter is OK). It was partially our fault as we were too tired after late arrival of our midnight flight and did not check cost of taxi in advance.
The main reason of our stay in Sirius hotel is its exquisite location and panoramic views. The property is close to the city center, 10 min walk makes easy selection of dinner and lunch places, and pleasant evening stroll; far enough from crowds of tourist in the evening - very quiet at night; close to town bus station square - 3 min walk; all sightseeing tours have pick up point at the bus station nearby - very convenient for early morning tours; for each sightseen tour you may ask for an early breakfast in general breakfast place - regardless how early it is. This is much better than eating sandwiches in the room or taking them on the bus. We stayed at the hotel in high season so the price seemed to be quite high. However our triple room on the ground floor had its private tiny garden with marvelous view of the bay and starry Sicilian sky (one garden is shared with 3 other rooms). The room itself was very spacious, sufficiently furnished (many chairs and armchairs) and well lit. The pool was good and always clean. The staff speaks good English, very friendly, helpful and knowleadgeble.
Trattoria Da Nino is the great place (2 min walk) not to miss, ask the hotel for booking and you will get the best table. Excellent food and wine, though not cheap. But you pay and get full satisfaction of what you have for dinner and how you are served - one of the best eating places in Taormina (if not the best).
We spent really marvelous holiday at this hotel and admired Sicily a lot for its natural beauty and hospitality.

The hotel is set on the outskirts of Taormina town and looks over the beautiful bay below. It is positioned between the cable car which takes you down to the beach and the bus station which can take you uphill to the village an ruins of Castelmola. It is less than 5 minutes walk to the heart of town, the Corsa Umberto with numerous shops and restaurants. The pool is never overcrowded and there are always enough sunbeds. It even has hydrotherapy jets. The hotel provides towels and there is a snake bar selling good pizzas, pannini and salads, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Breakfast is excellent and the hotel provides a packed lunch to those on half board who are arriving back late from excursions. There is free wireless access for one hour a day. the code is available from reception. Dinner is served on the terrace, weather permitting, and some meals were excellent, although others were disappointing, largely due to the accompanying vegetables which could be very greasy. The service, howver, could not be faulted. Our room was a little dark but had a balcony and was cleaned thoroughly every day. There was a fridge and a safe. All in all we were very pleased with our choice of hotel and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that gets the sun and is not too dark. Rooms on the third floor, genearlly have the...

The view from this hotel is its biggest charm. From the pool, restaurant and several rooms you get such a breathtaking view on the sea and coastline that you can't be disappointed. If you have never payed extra for seaview, this should be your exception. The view is the fourth star.

Our room was okey. Maid kept it in tidy condition and air-con worked. Beds weren't the best, but still okey for a good sleep. Sleeping quality was perfect, since at least I can't remember any noise coming from the outside.

From what we heard from other guests room sizes and layouts vary. Also, as this is a hotel on a hill, there are lots of steps and stairs.

We had halfboard so we ate at the hotel every evening. You get to choose from 3-4 options a starter, maincourse and dessert. This was my first time in Italy, so I don't have much to compare the quality of food, but I wasn't disapponted. Also, must point out that the service was of good standard.

Pool worked okey too. Note that the pool is deep. Deep end almost 4 metres, shallow end 0,7 metres, so not the best for little children. There were just enough chairs for the guests.

Location of the hotel is about 7 minute walk uphill to Taormina central. Bus station is just few minutes walk from the reception - again uphill. Very handy.

Convenient location. 2 min walk from Bus Station and Cable Car, 5 min walk from center of town. Quiet setting with lovely views.

Clean room. Good service.

Nice choice at breakfast.of breads, meats, eggs and fruits.

Nice pool but it was too cold to swim when we were there.

First of all i think i have to say we went to Sicily to get married and could not have found a better hotel to stay in. The staff, Carmelo, La Rosa and Fabiola on reception were all more than friendly to us as we always treated these people with respect as we do in any country we go to and any hotel we go to. THEY ARE ONLY THERE AS PEOPLE DOING A JOB. Just as i imagine all the people complaining in the reviews i have read are !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .A special mention to the waiters who we were more than happy with even though they had some very obnoxious people to deal with (especially the elderly couple from Edinburgh ,SORRY, only the wife, as she obviously wore the trousers and made complaints about every meal after a bottle of wine. This woman could very easily cause trouble in an empty room, and i think she took great enjoyment from it.Next point i would like to bring to fruition is the complaints about the driveway and stairs. There are lifts in the hotel so nonproblem there. The driveway i admit was very steep but again i would like to say, if you don't like walking up hills then don't pick a holiday ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN ( take the time to check out the location of the hotel before you go.)

This is a nice hotel in a nice spot, if you can manage the drive and stairs. Your room however will be a gamble, if you get one that is a decent size well done you, if you dont, tough as the manager will tell you.

The staff are all wonderful with two exceptions, one is a waiter and the other is the manager, who for all intents and purposes is a horrible excuse for a human being, very very rude at best, didnt care about his guests at all and lied regularly about everything from how full they were to how it wasnt him that kept turning off the awful useless air conditioning. I witnessed him actually shouting at one guest because she had complained about the food, he actually came from around the desk and shouted at her in her face.... This poor woman was astounded, as were the rest of us standing around watching. With a different manager and an upgrade in rooms and chef, this hotel would be wonderful, as it is now its basically got great views and its convenient for the bus station, other than that give it a miss, SERIOUSLY !!!

Just returned from a week in Taormina and a very enjoyable stay at the Sirius. We had a room on the 2nd floor and while it was quite small the balcony more than made up for it -large with a table and chairs and loungers and a fantastic sea view! The bathroom was very small and the shower cubicle tiny but the shower was powerful which we liked. The bathroom hairdryer is not great so I'd recommend taking your own but I actually quite enjoyed sitting on the balcony and letting my hair dry naturally in the sun. The room had a spacious wardrobe with safe. The hotel is quite traditionally decorated with lovely public areas, terraces and gorgeous, bright flowers everywhere. Pool was great (if a little cold!) with views over the sea, plenty of loungers and a nice pool bar. Reception staff were friendly and always greeted us and the breakfast choice was good although I would have liked to have seen more fruit choice. Bus station and cable car are a few minutes walk and the Corso Umberto a 10 minute stroll so very well located. Would definitely recommend!
