We stayed at the Mediterranean in Florence where we had bed and breakfast for 3 nights.
On the plus side the hotel was in a good location and the room we had was quiet(I had requested this).
On the minus side we have never had a breakfast in such a chaotic also no WiFi from our room.
We then stayed at Le Fonti on the edge of Volterra.
This hotel had certainly seen better days. We had bed, breakfast and evening meals there.
The breakfast was fine but the evening meals could have been a lot better!!! The meals were rushed as the staff obviously wanted to go home.
The guide we had was not very good as not enough information was given and she kept complaining about the Italian economy and the high unemployment in Italy. Fortunately we got to the airport on time as the guide and driver were so busy talking that the turning was missed and we were half an hour later than planned.
This was disappointing as we had previously been to Krakow and our guide David there had been excellent.
This holiday was from 29th September-6th October.

Our guide Gabriele Scarpellini, piloted my husband and me last May around the serene Tuscan countryside to enjoy various attractions ranging from the Gregorian chants at Abbey Monte Oliveto Maggiore (with its frescoes) to Volterra of Etruscan origin, presently an enchanting Tuscan town. Given the chant’s morning schedule, we’d abandoned the idea of hearing them but Gabriele’s persistent checking with the Abbey resulted in his finding for us an evening chant...an uplifting experience indeed!

He customized our itinerary from Siena steering us away from tourist hordes to the charming medieval town of Monteriggioni with its original fortified wall towers and history, local entertainment, and small interesting gift shops. Since we’d already visited the Etruscan exhibit in Florence and intended to visit the one in Rome, he selectively shepherded us through the Volterra Museum with its dizzying collection of artifacts. Exceptionally knowledgeable and entertaining, he identified and explained the significance of various illustrative sarcophagi and objet d’art such as the astonishing Shadow of the Evening bronze statuette.

Since culture alone does not suffice to gladden the soul, he introduced us to Siena’s prime confection- Ricciarelli!! Also at Volterra, the best gnocchi we’ve ever eaten in Italy or elsewhere. Grazie mille, Gabriele!

We took the 'Afternoon in Chianti' tour. Our guide Viola was great and the selection of places were good. The tour however involves a fair bit of walking which isn't clear from the description. On the downside, our buses were late, we changed more than 3 buses, one of which didn't have enough seats and we got back to Florence much after midnight (when we should have been dropped off by 1030 pm).

Thank Vandana P

Dear Vandana,
thank you for your precious feedback. According to the bus company, the bus was in a minor accident in San Gimignano and needed a last minute replacement. Luckily this happened when you were not onboard and they tried to solve the problem in a fast and flawless way. Sometimes though, being in the middle of a beautiful country side, also means that the closest replacement is not as close as one might want. We are happy to hear that Viola met your standards and that the selected places were to your liking.
We hope you had an impeccable rest of your holiday.
Best regards,
Cora

My wife and I took the MONTALCINO, PIENZA, MONTEPULCIANO (Orcia Valley) tour. We visited two wineries and 3 towns. The towns each had their own character and while the guide was very good, there were way too many people for wine tasting at the second location. The bus had two floors and was packed. While the first wine tasting accommodated the group by seating us all at tables, the wine tasting at the second location was crowded and a joke. Even after splitting the group in half, the tasting squeezed us in a tight space and moved us quickly from wine to wine while tasting from small plastic cups..the size of a shot class. Doesn't do the wine or the experience justice. If wine tasting is important, find another tour with a smaller number of people!

Dear client, we are sorry to hear that you were displeased with this service. Unfortunately being this high season, all the join a group tours are overbooked. Maybe next time you could come in a less hectic period or ask us to privately organize it for you, that would definetly solve the problem of too many people on the tour.
Kind regards,
Cora
