“Magnificent gardens, awesome views of Florence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2012

The Boboli Gardens are simply a beautiful respite from the hustle and bustle of Florence and its museums and tourists. The grounds are huge and wonderfully designed, with statues and art throughout [including modern art]. But the views, ah the views of Florence are its strongest attraction. Must see in Florence if you have the time.

“Magical”

Check in advance the types of tickets you can get for this attraction as there's many additional bits and bobs you can see on certain tickets. This is something we didn't do and while it didn't spoil anything it caused some confusion.

Give yourself a whole day if you can and be prepared to be on your feet-consider a packed lunch. It's a wonderful way to spend a day.

It's nice to walk the gardens, but the real treat is the views you get of Florence.

“Perhaps not world-class but worthy of a couple hours wondering the grounds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2012

We spent the majority of one of our days in Florence in the Oltrarno district concentrating on the attractions in that area. During this time we visited the Boboli Gardens, which is a massive area laid out for the Merdici family in the 16th century.

You buy tickets for the Boboli Gardens at the Pitti Palace ticket desk to the far right of the main entrance as you are approaching the Pitti Palace (7 Euro per person). Tickets included entrance into the Bardini Garden and several buildings inside the Boboli Garden as well.

We enjoyed our time in Boboli Gardens and would possibly return during future trips to Florence. You can see an interesting amphitheatre that remains, a grotto structure that includes some works by Michelangelo among others, a lovely cypress avenue and small circular lake lined with statues. There are many small walking paths in the wooded areas of the gardens, giving the impression of being in an actual woodland area. We found a number of lawns as well that must have hosted some very impressive balls in centuries past. Statues of various degrees of quality and decay can be found throughout the gardens as well.

Unfortunately, we visited during winter when the gardens were not flush green like the pictures often seen in brochures and online. However, it was green enough and still quite enjoyed by us. The Barbini Garden, which is included in the ticket price, didn’t seem to fair as well under the winter weather conditions in our opinion, seeming to lack much of the splendor seen of this attraction in its brochure and online.

Overall, even in the winter, we felt the visit to the Boboli Gardens was a good one, worthy of the 7 Euro entry fee. We’d probably skip the Bardini Gardens if we visited again during a winter trip to Florence but would most likely return to spend more time in Boboli.
