“A room with a view in the world's most beautiful city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

A good location, a nice ambience and a friendly and efficient service.
We opted for rooms with views over the Arno, presented with a flourish of opening shutters by the very friendly doorman. A knockout for our American friends. Just bear in mind that there's a road below and so you will become part of the buzz (literally) of this remarkable city. But you're a couple of minutes' walk to the Ponte Vecchio and there's a myriad of small alleys to nip down to avoid the crush of getting to the main sites/sights. The rear of the hotel looks onto a quiet piazza where the church opposite held a candlelit vigil the night before Good Friday - you're serenaded by the (not-too-loud) bells, the rooftop garden is a small oasis of calm and the locals gather for a Florentine catch-up on the news. So a hotel in a community.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view onto the Arno will include the noise from the road outside - but take this as part...

We stayed here for our 2 year wedding anniversary. My husband has pre ordered some surprises along the way and had been able to so fairly easily.

The location is right by the ponte vecchio and is central to all the little shops and restaurants in the heart of Florence.

Service was great and the room was clean and a good size. The bathroom was large and spacious and the view from the room was of the little square below us which was beautiful.

If we go back to Florence - we will stay here again!

This hotel is worth 5 stars. The staff is friendly and very willing to help. The room was beautiful. The breakfast buffet was amazing. The location is perfect, right along the river. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Florence has mosquitoes, don't open your windows at night.

Booked a hotels.com package as we needed 2 rooms for our family of five; was more than we hoped to spend. Stayed there this past week for 3 nights, rooms 302 & 304 (not connecting). 304 had a king view with great views of the Arno, and if forehead pressed to window, can see Porte Vecchio. Was very easy walk to all main attractions, and easy for our teenager to find on his own. Also, easy access to restuarants on other side of Arno. Breakfast a little better than most Eur hotels...had scrambled eggs in addition to meats, fruits, cheeses, and breads. Could not get VPN to work over the hotel WiFi (wasn't a problem rest of trip at other hotels). PC/Internet terminal in lobby was very dated and slow.

Room Tip: 305 & 304 have views of Arno, 303, 302 have views of a wall.

Booked last minute with Expedia.ca hotel and flight package; with $400 savings. Stressed, frazzled female travelling without husband and family, just a much needed get away to a safe controlled environment. Room 508 (single room with two beds). Huge window 3x3, with beautiful florentine curtains and small cast iron grate across the bottom. View was a white wall, a few clay rooftops and the sky.( Close your eyes and visualize any place you would like). Wonderful for extreme peace quiet with gauranteed full privacy and safety with window and curtains wide open. Wonderful breeze NO noise, voices or smells from the street. The world was a million miles away. The early morning bells were wonderful.
Frette sheets, 'space foam pillows' and towels clean every day. Mattress very firm. Slept for 15 hours first night.
Post cards, quality stationary very nice hotel pens guide book magazine, information books and toiletries (ETRO) were all in the room. It would have been good to have a body lotion instead of the ' liiquid intimate wash soap' , it is my understanding that most people use bar soap in the bidet.
The Manaager and a bell hop took me to my room when I arrived, neither showed me the bar fridge which I did not find until my last night . Night 3 I found myself at the front desk looking for cold drinkable water at 03:00, he again did not mention the bar fridge, but assured me that he would call an ambulance if I drank the tap water and got sick....LOL.
Staff is very attentive and seriously 'consierge professional', which means very efficient and polite but seldom smiling. if you go to the front desk you have to always say "Excuse Me" because "Can I help you" is the exception not the norm. Lighting in room perfect for reading with proper bright bulbs. Berchelli is a charming and very culturally Italian Experience where any extra needs are asked for and happily provided but not anticipated and provided without question. Robert R. waitor was bright star and his skill and charm were outstanding, his smiling face and excellent service made breakfast a wonderful experience. Orange juice cold and fresh, coffee outstanding...yogurt and fruit wonderful.
Wonderful small store in alley behind hotel (2 minute walk) open 7-19:00 for cold meat, cheese, sandwiches, snacks local olive oil and beautiful small olive wood chopping blocks and cheese graters ,very old and small, worth a visi for origional take homes. Computer at front desk was just perfect...........too slow to do tons of work and e mails but fast enough to do the necessary ie boarding passes etc. Spotless Hotel........travelled in Italy since 1971......this hotel is a little gem and wonderfully Italian. Stayed 6 nights.

Room Tip: when booking tell them what you want.......they know their rooms and each of them is unique. They w...

Niclor08, Manager at Hotel Berchielli, responded to this review, 10 April 2012
Dear Mrs.W.A.,
we wish to thank you for the nice and detailed review about our hotel.
On arrival we take clients to their room and standard policy is to explain how to use Tv, minibar, safety box and telephone therefore we apologise if the staff did not apply the procedure correctly.
Tap water is of course safe and drinkable but occasionally it can slightly taste of chlorine and this is what we explain to clients therefore the night concierge probably was not able to properly explain this detail.
He did not mention the minibar as he took for granted that you had been informed on arrival.
Thank you again.

We booked our stay at this hotel through British Airways for a short break in Florence. The location is very good being a short distance from most of the attractions and across the road from the River Arno. We were allocated a room on the 4th floor at the rear of the hotel which might be a disappointment for some (i.e. no river view) but meant that we didn't get traffic noise from the fairly busy road at the front of the hotel. The room overlooked other buildings and roof tops which was perfectly acceptable in a city such as Florence.

The room was well appointed with a larger than average double bed complete with a nice firm mattress, dressing table with chair, wardrobe with drawers within, safe, mini bar and TV. The bathroom was of a very good standard with full size bath and shower over the bath (however shower head kept drooping as the fitting was a bit loose), bidet, wash basin and toilet. There were toiletries and other essentials provided, as well as a hairdryer on the wall. It appeared that the bed and bathroom linen was changed everyday and everything was spotless. We were at the hotel during a fairly warm spell and did find that the central heating was still on. We couldn't get our airconditioning to come on (it only seemed to be able to heat the room), but to be fair we didn't mention this to the hotel as it wasn't a particular issue.

There is wireless internet connection but we found this to be very slow - not sure if this was down to the distance we were from the router, and how many people were using it. You need to ask reception for the internet acces code. Also, ask them for the safe key if you want to lock your valuables away.

Breafast was very good with an excellent continental breakfast selection plus scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages etc if you wanted them. The breakfast was taken in a lovely room on the 2nd floor, and all the staff were very attentive. We didn't use the bar on the ground floor but it did look a nice place to sit & chill out.

Overall we were very pleased that we stayed at the Hotel Berchielli. All the staff we came into contact with were friendly and helpful and if we visit Florence again we wouldn't hesitate in booking this hotel again.

Booked this after looking on Tripadvisor; managed to get a package that included flights & four nights.
Must agree with most reviews - location is great ! You walk out the door - river across the road, Ponte Vecchio to your left, Uffizi just past the bridge on the river. All the big sights within a 20 minute walk - fantastic.
Hotel service is very good - desk staff are polite & helpful.
We had a room on the fourth floor overlooking a small courtyard at the side entrance going back onto Borgo Santi Apostoli. This was fine; however beacause we were at that side & it was February the room got dark early. The bathroom was clean & tidy (down a little set of stairs - slightly odd); the only down side was the bath was really too small for a shower with a curtain. The shower curtain was quite heavy & stuck round you at the slightest movement - not nice! Get rid of them, Berchielli, & get some shower screens or something - far more practical !
The breakfast room was very nicely appointed; breakfast was very good - lots of choice (maybe a little more hot choice would be good) but otherwise a great way to start the day (tip; have a cappucino for breakfast - you get a different chocolate pattern every day & the coffee is great !)
No restaurant but there are plenty nearby which are fine; maybe a tad old-fashioned for some but would certainly think to stay here again if visiting Florence in the future.
Great for location & value - good staff.

Room Tip: River view rooms probably worth the extra - side rooms are quieter but no view. Depends on what you...
