“WONDERFUL, WELL LOCATED HOTEL”
Reviewed 2 June 2012

We stayed at Hotel Berchielli for 4 nights in a room overlooking the Arno River. It was wonderful. The staff was both friendly and helpful. They were particularly good in straightened out our boarding passes and confirming our return flight to the US. Even got us a cab to Florence Airport at 5:00 AM without any trouble. The hotel itself is truly four star----- immaculate, comfortable, spacious room and bathroom, free internet, three English speaking channels on the room TV, air conditioned. The breakfast was amazing. Hotel has a nice breakfast room, small lounge, nice lobby reception area and roof deck (which unfortunately has no views of the river). No on-site restaurant for dinner but there are plenty of decent restaurants nearby. Located on the Arno River about a one minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the Arno have stunning views but do get some noise from the street below which get...

I adored this hotel. Because of an unexpected upgrade, my room looked out on the Arno. When I stood on the balcony I could see the Ponte Vecchio. The room itself felt spacious and the bathroom was especially lovely. The lobby of the hotel looks better than all the photos I saw online. In the lobby there is a bar which also offers meals. I had the pleasure of chatting with two of the bartenders ( I had dinner there on two occasions) and both spoke good English and were friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic as major sites were only a walk away: the Uffizi, the Pitti Palace and even il Duomo. The service was fantastic, especially Massimo Moretti, who personally saved my netbook when my charger failed to work. The morning breakfast was always fresh and offered a diverse number of selections. There were two elevators and they were always available within a few minutes. Whenever I needed a cab, the desk made a call and a cab arrived within minutes. One of the entrances to the hotel opens to a charming plaza with an old church. It is so lovely that often art students sit on the steps near the hotel entrance to sketch. If I ever return to Italy, I would definitely stay at this hotel and I have already recommended it to friends.

Room Tip: I had room 105 and loved it. The view was amazing. When I went to sleep, I left the drafts open so I...

We returned (for the second time )to the hotel Berchielli for a 4 night break in May 2012 .The room had fabulous views over looking the Arno. The reception staff were very helpful indeed !! The breakfasts covered every taste and were a very nice start to the day, in pleasant surroundings, again the staff were attentive and very pleasant. The hotel is in a great location for both seeing the many splendid sights that florence has to offer but it is also well placed for enjoying the many fantastic restaurants ,shops and enotecas .Great fun was to be had on the San Lorenzo market (leather goods especialy) .You can get some real bargains by bartering .The food market is a real treat if you like Italian cheeses and meats.A word of warning though you may enjoy the food and wines but not the effect on your waistline .

.Having been to Florence several times this was my first time to stay in the Pont Vecchio area. It was very convenient to the Duomo, Accademia, the San Lorenzo market, etc.
The Boboli Gardens were close. Be prepared for hills....A Fashion/Costume Museum is included in the rate for the Gardens. The hop on and off bus is a good choice and near the hotel.
The desk persons were very pleasant and helpful as was the breakfast staff. The breakfast includes cereal, toast, fresh fruit, ham, eggs, sweet rolls ,cheese....was delicious.

We took a short 4 night break in Florence in May 2012 and stayed at the Hotel Berchielli which is right alongside the River Arno, just 150 metres from the Ponte Vechio. We upgraded to a river view suite which was so well worth doing. The view was spectacular both ways and you couldn't wish for a better site to see when you throw back the curtains and shutters first thing in the morning.

Breakfast is is intercontinental and will start you off superbly for a hard day's site seeing. And you won't have to go far to see everything - for example 300 metres away is the Uffizi Gallery. Florence is so compact that you won't need a car, which is just as well as the Italians are all Formula One drivers! Or they think they are.

The reception staff at the Berchielli are so gently kind and very helpful - nothing is too much trouble. "Would you like to see the original room you booked and the upgrade before choosing?" "Can we book you seats for an opera love songs recital?" "Yes, going to Fieosole by bus is best and cheapest" and so on.

The upgraded bedroom was really a suite with a wonderful marble bathroom and enormous very comfy bed. Deep pile carpets and oodles of room. Wonderful. But we would suggest that you have an upgraded room on level 4 which is then well above street (and people) level and therefore quieter. Still, ear plugs are always useful.

Would we stay at the Berchielli again? You bet!

Room Tip: Choose rooms for a view that are high as possible to avoid street noise.

The location is very convenient for all the key sightseeing sites. We had room 503 which had a good view of the river(two large windows) and was very spacious. No tea/coffee making facilities. The decor was a little oldfashioned(dull) and tired in places(carpets) especially for the price. We booked direct which seemed the best way and asked for a river view room which we got. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and and it filled us up for the day. The main lobby etc were much smarter than the bedroom. The afternoon tea on the terrace was good value. The staff were efficient but not particularly friendly.

We liked the Osteria de Peccatori restaurant on Piazza san Firenze, partly because they did not load their prices with extra cover charges. The Florence restaurants/bars/coffe shops add extra charges if you sit down eg we paid 11 euros for tea for two and 1 biscuit.

The iris gardens at the top of the hill(piazza san MIchelangelo) were fantastic.

Room Tip: ask for river views, 5th floor is good.

We stayed for 4 nights. The hotel was very clean, friendly and comfortable. Breakfast was nice, and the decorated capucchinos were lovely. Service at breakfast was a little offhand and brusque, but it can't be easy serving some of the 'clients' I saw while there. The rooms were comfortable and our 5th floor room overlooking the river was very quiet.

The situation is magnificent. Very close to all the sights, but also very close for escaping from those selfsame crowds.

I booked directly with the hotel and got a better rate than that offered by all the travel websites.

I would stay again.

Room Tip: Book direct for the best rates. Ask for a river view.
