Stayed here after finding the spot on hotels.com. Staff was super responsive prior to our arrival and was open and honest as to what to expect from a travel perspective (directions from the train station, walking up a number of stairs to the elevator from the front door). We were welcomed upon arrival with a thorough review of a Florence map with tons of recommendations highlighted and circled naming local spots and sites to visit. Anna was so kind as to print out our Duomo tickets one morning and explain easy directions to the spot.

Accommodations were simple but clean. We had the room right off the lobby and I was worried about noise but never was disturbed. The real noise came from the Irish pub on the street below but with all windows closed this became a faint sound.

Location was absolutely key for this hotel. My husband and I walked EVERYWHERE and I mean everywhere! Even to piazza Michelangelo.

Hotel offered a communal kitchen with snacks, coffee, milk, etc. we were in the hotel long enough to take advantage but it was nice as an option.

If you're looking for a place to rest your head with very nice staff and a great location-this is it! Also, have a few drinks at the pub downstairs-it's fun observing the teenagers if Florence!

We stayed from the 4th - 7th Sept and well, we did not expect what we found. It is a bit tucked away and you have to go up an initial flight of 20 stairs but you could not be more central for everything even if you tried. This is not a hotel, it is a guest house and the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They are just lovely. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are more than adequate in size and are very well decorated. There is a lovely common room where they leave out croissants, pastries, fresh juices, fresh coffee, music and much much more. You almost feel home from home and it is a great way to meet some of the other guests. If you go to Florence, also look out for a restaurant called the Boccadama; it will not disappoint.

Room tip: The Botticelli room offers a good view over the market and is still very quiet.

This is a beautiful hotel in an ideal location. Couldn't have been better positioned. The room was very pleasant, and the shower was superb. My only disappointment was with the bed, which was very hard, but that wouldn't prevent me from coming back. We stayed in the Botticelli room, which had a lovely view over the Old Market.

The arrangements for breakfast are also really good. Plenty of variety, very casual and relaxed, and available all day!

Room tip: Botticelli room, lovely views, good bathroom, but a very firm bed.

We came in May 2011 and returned this month. Very thing as last time was 100%, will return on our next visit to Florence. The location of the premises are very central and so within easy walking distance.

Room tip: We had the room next to the breakfast room and therefore, very handy.

We truly found a pot of gold within the streets of Florence! I loved the feeling of being in an apartment with the comfort of a B&B.

I must admit - as we walked up the dimly lit stairwell, we were not sure what to expect. Yet, when we opened the door into the sitting area, we were so pleasantly surprised. We were even more pleased with how our room looked. You can tell the owners put a lot of time and effort into making it a beautiful living space.

We were first greeted by Aiko to check in and she was so kind and accommodating. She gave us a detailed map with tips about where to go and she answered all our questions. Later in the week she even made calls for us to re-schedule our train. Talk about good service!

Francesca also made some calls for us during the week to help us book things. Thank you!!

The common kitchen was adorably decorated and had all the utensils we needed. My only complaint is that there were far too many sweet things at breakfast - cookies, croissants, cake. It was a sugar overload. I'd recommend more fruits, nuts, and savoury crackers.

Our room was a great size - bigger than I expected. And, it was very clean. It was nice to also have complimentary water in our fridge. I know we don't come to Florence to watch TV, but I would have liked to have one or two English channels, like our hotel in Milan did.

Although there is no security guard, I felt very safe, as there is a key to get into the building, another to enter the B&B, and a third for the room. Noise was not a problem, as the window shutters blocked the noise from the street.

Overall, if you stay at Relais Cavalcanti, you'll be in a fabulous location, in beautiful surroundings, and have friendly, helpful staff.
