“Great Budget Hotel, Weird Bathroom”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

This hotel is fantastically located and is very clean. The staff are super helpful, and I felt very safe behind multiple gates and doors. The bathroom is a weird shape, so that you could literally sit on the toilet or the sink and shower. It is a walk up, but since the building is over 300 years old this is to be expected. The breakfast at the sister hotel is close and a good value. Unlimited coffee drinks and typical European breakfast for €5. I would highly recommend this hotel to any budget traveler!

I left my mobile phone in the hotel but they send the SIM card for me. And they help me keep my phone. So good service!! so nice person! And the bathroom is really good.i stayed in this hotel for two nights. And also the location. It is near the train station. so it is convenient for us . And another part i want to mentioned is the lady's English, its pretty good comparing with other hotel charger in Italy.

With Hotel Elite what you see is what you get. This hostel is fantastically located, and as other reviewers have noted - offers rooms at amazingly cheap prices compared to other lodgings in Florence. It's only a few minutes' walk to the main train station, and you can be down in the main square at the Uffizi in 10-15 minutes on foot (and it's a lovely walk).

The only staff member we dealt with was the lovely Nadia, who was effervescent and incredibly helpful with a map, directions and frank advice on visiting various attractions.

We booked a private room with ensuite, which was functional, clean and basic but had everything we needed. The hostel is also upstairs within a locked apartment building so feels secure (although note you will have to lug your luggage up that first flight of stairs). The free wireless internet was slowish (as would be expected given that it's free) but once again was all we really needed.

Room Tip: Our room had a window looking down into the small central courtyard space which was nice.

This hotel is located near Santa Maria Novella train station and is convenient to the local piazza. The hotel does not have a lift, but the host helped us with our bags. The room was small but comfortable with a sink and shower. There is a shared bathroom down the hall. Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed just one night in transit to Padua.

The location is fantastic, and the price is great, but the shared bathroom that we had to use (toilet only, the shower was in our room) had an awful sewer smell. That really but a major dampener on our stay there, making it hard to recommend.

Apparently you can only check-in at between 10 am and 4 pm. If you arrive after this time then you have to go to the sister hotel to check-in. This was meant to be around 50 metres but it was more like 350 to 400 metres, which is quite a struggle when you have all your luggage and we are both retired. Eventually I made it to the check-in where you have to produce your passport and pay your money up front, before even seeing your room. I think it was the owners son but when I requested seeing the room before paying he replied, 'This is not possible, we have your card details, we will take your money anyway'. He was just rude, obnoxious and unhelpful.
After having no alternative but to pay up front we found that there was 40 steps up to the door of the hotel and then a further 25 up to the room. This would've proved very difficult at our age having it not been for a young couple staying there carrying our bags up for us. Someone has already mentioned on here about 'where is the elevator and mentioning steps in reviews which is certainly a most valid point I think, especially for older ages.
The room was small and if one of us wanted to walk around the room then the other would have to move to make space. You had about 18 inches between wall and bed. However the room was clean. I would not recommend this hotel and certainly wouldn't stay here again and saw another traveller being spoken to quite rudely by the owners son (I believe it to be the owners son but I'm not 100% sure). It's also worth noting that there is no staff at the hotel so should you have a problem you've got to go to the other hotel.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel where they value their customers.

We stayed here our first two nights in Italy. Accomodation is budget, so don't expect anything spectacular, but it was very clean, the hosts were very helpful. They didn't even get angry at me when my hair straightener tripped the breaker (stupid American...that's me!! haha). They offer a breakfast for 5 euro at their sister hotel across the Piazza Santa Maria Novella, however, it wasn't anything special, the coffee was gross and I'd recommend just going to to a bar for a really good cappucino and pastry. I'd recommend Hotel Elite for a budget travler. Location is great, within walking distance of the train and everything touristy. Beds were not great but its a clean place to lay your head. Plus, we didn't hang out in our room anyway!
