After living in Florence for a month, I decided my favourite part of my stay was the cafe my boyfriend and I went to every morning. Serafini we found after it was suggested to us our first night arriving in Florence, and luckily it was right down the street, not even a three minute walk from our apartment. Our first day we went in for breakfast and a cappuccino, and politely asked "parla Englese" and they promptly answered "no." We were both a little nervous to try and communicate in our very, very broken Italian, but we managed none the less. Over the next few days we met a few of the staff who spoke a little more English. However, all the staff were always friendly, helpful, and happy to see us. The staff was patient in understanding what we tried to order, and helped us learn some basic Italian. By the end of our month, we could order a croissante con crema, a bocconcini and prosciutto panino, and due cappuccini. Serafini also provides an excellent and fair priced apertivo in the evenings, with a great selection of food and drinks. The Serafini staff were always welcoming, always friendly, and they really made my Italian cafe experience amazing. The pastries were always fresh and so delicious, and the cappuccino was to die for. And the prices were incredibly reasonable, especially for a student travelling on a budget! You can get high quality food and drinks for an incredibly low and fair price. My favourite drink I ever tried was called Fornacino Freddo, which was a shot of espresso with fresh dark chocolate shavings and fresh made vanilla gelato. It is a must try!
