We were in Lucca for a long weekend and went round the walls on foot as well as on a four-wheel bike which we rented for 20 euros. Both were great fun. I'd avoid Sunday morning if I did it again as it seemed like half the population had the same idea as us!
Overall, though, an experience not be missed.

We were staying opposite the wall in Lucca & were able to walk across the green.. at night it was very odd because the path seemed to lead to a blank wall & the lighting was quite dim....at the last nanosecond you could see a tunnel opening up at right angles. I called it the 9 & three quarters hole in the wall.

It's wide enough to take a lot of walkers, cyclists, families, skateboarders & so on. We were there in autumn but in the summer it must be extremely busy.

There are also steps at intervals to gain access into the town.

The whole way (we didn't get all the way round) are views to the towers of Lucca so I can understand why it's the number 1 attraction.

This was one of our favourite experiences whilst on holiday. The walls are a lovely place to explore especially in the evening when it cools down. There are green spaces and play parks available which are great places to take children and you get to have a look at some wonderful gardens and buildings inside the walls from an elevated position. Definitely recommended.

The fortified walls are enormous, sufficient to carry a full blown road around the top. The number of cyclists can be a bit of a problem (there are plenty of cycle hire shops in the city and near the wall) but would recommend walking. It is only 2.6 miles and the views from the wall give a different perspective to the city.

It sorrounds Lucca, and never destroyed by an attack.
They iluminate the outside at night and looks very pretty,
You can walk around Lucca (4 kilometers) on it, with beutifull views.
