We actually rented the apartment that is just a few doors down from the hotel. Because we were there for only three nights, there was no maid service and we were not included in the hotel breakfast (we were ok with both of these things). The apartment was more than adequate, but kind of a funky layout with a raised kitchen. Knowing me, I am kind of amazed that I didn't fall with the 6-8 inch elevation change from the kitchen to the rest of the house. Our major complaint was that the hot pot did not work as the plug was to big for the receptacles. No hot pot meant no coffee which was a near crisis until we figured out that we could just boil water in a pan. We like to sleep with the windows open and that meant a lot of street noise (garbage etc) in the wee hours of the morning. And there was a dire warning if you didn't take the garbage out, there would be a 50 euro fine. On the plus side, the location on the fabulous pedestrian street Via Fillungo made up for a lot of shortcomings. We could walk anywhere in the walls pretty quickly and it was only about a 15 minute walk to the train station. Lucca is a wonderful and less touristy city and we loved it, and our apartment and it's location only added to our enjoyment.

We spent five nights here this month. It is the perfect place from which to explore Lucca. The building itself is wonderful with high ceilings, stone interiors, a fabulous courtyard and a location just in the middle of things. However the staff are also thoughtful and welcoming. The breakfasts they provide are terrific too.

We stayed in one of the apartments. It was cool...reminded us of a 70’s decorated apartment, which we liked. It had a Rubics Cube ottoman...we thought was neat. The place was very roomy and very clean. It was on the 3rd floor, but we got used to it. Marta was super helpful with everything. We asked questions about places to go and things to do, and she was so helpful. She gave us outstanding recommendations for restaurants every night and made reservations for us. The restaurants we ate at were amazing and the food was the best we had in Italy over our entire trip. If we make it back to Lucca, we will definitely stay here. Thank you Marta for everything!!

We arrived on a Saturday and were placed in room 5 directly over the busiest street in town. I knew immediately that it was not a good choice for me as I am a light sleeper. The staff, who are all lovely people as others has stated, offered to move us the next day. Okay I was willing to do that. The next day I was told that there was a quieter room but it did not have a shower, only a tub. AND that the noise on the street should abate as it was now Sunday. We decided to stay in room 5. It was not a smart decision!

Sunday is an amazing day in Lucca, I have never seen the streets of a small town virtually run like water with people shopping, walking, talking, dog walking, smoking, eating, drinking. A very lively town! That evening the noise continued unabated.

Then early the next morning, Monday, there was a crew dismantling something across the street. The clanging started at 7:00.

Bottom line, while the hotel is clean, the people lovely, the food acceptable, the cappucino's the best I have had in Italy, it is just too loud at this hotel. If you have sleep issues, try somewhere else.

On a side note, their breakfast area and alcove sitting area is dark with shredded curtains and could use a lightening and freshening. Perhaps they hadn't noticed.

Staff are very friendly. Breakfast is served from 7:30-11 and includes excellent pastries made on the grounds. You can also have eggs prepared, if you like.

Our room was a generous size with a bathroom carved out of one section. Everything was modern but the shower door opened inward which made it difficult for my tall husband to get inside.

The entry involves a flight of stairs, plus we had to go down a few more to get to our room.

The B & B is across from the torture museum, on the main street of Via Fillungo. There are lots of shops and restaurant close by.

Very clean. Well-maintained. A good place to stay.
