The Hotel Alma Domus was my favorite of the three places I stayed on a recent trip to Italy. (Oddly, it was also the LEAST expensive). The rooms are simple--you will believe that all the floors used to be part of a convent, as opposed to the one that remains active for that purpose--and the complex has a feel a bit like a retreat center. The staff were polite and kind. There's a common room (with computers to use for a quite reasonable fee, and books to browse or borrow), a good breakfast, and clean rooms. No TVs in the room, which added to the calming feel. But what really made this place for me was the balcony, which looked over the tiled roofs of Siena and made the hustle of the city center feel miles away (as opposed to a ten-minute walk). So ask for a room with a balcony on the 3rd or 4th floor, and enjoy!

We stayed here for one night with our two kids, ages 14 and 12, excellent location, quiet, clean and comfortable! The Quad room was very spacious with it's own kitchenette. Very friendly staff. We plan on coming back to Siena and would stay here again without a doubt!

No frills here but an inexpensive place to stay in Siena. The breakfast is lacking in service and selection. While the rooms are air conditioned, ours was turned off the first night between 12 and 3 AM which made for very unpleasant sleeping. Also, there is no TV so be prepared to stay out until you plan to go to bed. Hairdryer and electrical adapters are available at reception. Location provides good access to shopping, bus service and historical sites.

We stayed for one week, and thought this hotel had some big plusses but a few downsides.

The plusses first:
Location: about 7 minutes walk to the Piazza del Campo, close to the main bus station and with good restaurants very nearby.
View: We had a top floor room with a small balcony that looked up towards the Duomo. Fantastic. We had room 11.
Public areas: Pleasant lounge, and very pretty terrace.
Staff: Always pleasant and helpful.
Whole place was spotless and towels changes most days.

Not so good:
The rooms themselves are definitely no frills, though we found ours comfortable enough.
Shower room had only rather skimpy curtain around the shower, so it was impossible to have a shower without making the room rather wet and slippy.
Breakfast: Quantity no problem - lots of croissants, cake and pastries and also some fruit and some indentifiable fruit juices. One type of cereal. Yoghurts. However it wasn't of the highest quality and there were no cheeses of breads. But why would there be for the price?

We are torn between 3 and 4 stars, and went for 4 because of our view. Without that it would definitely only be 3.

Room Tip: Top floor, facing towards the Duomo for tremendous views. None of the rooms are quiet because Siena is full of churches with very loud bells.

The Alma Domus is in a great location not far from the bus station and within easy walking distance to the main part of town. The rooms are very basic with no frills, but are reasonably comfortable. There are no extras like fridge, TV or hairdryer. The continental breakfast buffet was decent with one large free cappuccino included (unlimited regular coffee).
