We loved our two night stay in this grand old castle. The restaurant is elegantly decorated with antique furniture, candleabras and a fireplace. The Umbrian cuisine, which is sourced from their farm, was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Our room was in the old stables, spread over two levels, with antique furniture and silk bedlinen. The breathtaking views of the valley completed the ambience. Their Day Spa has a turkish bath and there is an outdoor swimming pool. You can even attend cooking classes. I was impressed with the free on site parking and wifi. I would thoroughly recommend this hidden getaway.

Room Tip: The higher floor is quieter. The tiramisu is the best I have ever tasted. Remember castles don;t have lifts!

What can I say? Castello di Petrata is absolutely stunning! I traveled here recently with a group and we had an amazing time. The staff is helpful, generous, and friendly, the food is delicious, and the views will take your breath away. Nothing was too much for the staff to handle, they are absolute pros. We will return!

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the valley.

This amazing hotel is up a quaint winding road that leads to the top of a hill where it is like a gorgeous Eden. The parking is under trees and the parking lots are labeled so your car has protection and it's easy to find later. Just to walk around the grounds and have the amazing views and the gorgeous grounds to explore. Followed by an amazing 4 star meal and wine. Some of the best food I have ever had. They also have a winery near by that you can book (book before you visit) a tour on and theubwill even ship wine to your home. As well as you can purchase fresh fruit from their orchards. The breakfast buffet was full of choices and fresh fruit from their orchards.

Freshly upgraded castle with amazing view. Nice comfortable rooms in a unique environment. Not easy to find but worth wile looking for. The surroundings of the hotel are beautiful. Truffle hunting with the dogs in the hotel's domain is a unique experience.

Room Tip: as for a room with a view on the valley.

The building is wonderful, views outstanding, staff generally good, so why did we regret staying here?
Firstly, we froze. The very attractive room contained central heating, but it was not working. We managed to borrow a feeble electric heater, which almost made the temperature bearable when we wore our outside clothes.
Secondly, the water stopped. Twice. The manager did not consider that going without a shower or the possibility of flushing the toilet would be particularly unpleasant. Maybe he is accustomed to this. We are not.
In summary, this was the most expensive hotel of our Italian trip, and could have been the best. Instead it was the least comfortable.
Under these circumstances, I cannot recommend discerning travellers to stay here.
