“Perfect Place to Stay”
Reviewed June 16, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed at this modern and very nice furnished apartment for three weeks. We felt at home right away. Every thing you need is there including a well equipped kitchen. The hosts Frank and Cornelia are very friendly and helpful. We booked already for next year.

“fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed September 22, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

I traveled there with a few friends and was totally impressed when we walk into the premises. It totally feels like home for us and much more. The host Frank and Conny were very helpful and kind in all sorts of ways, many things without even requested are all prepared and ready there in the house for our disposal.

If you have at least four days to spend around Luzern, I would highly recommend this place, train up to Rigi is at your doorstep and it took us less than three hours travel to mount Titlis. An hour boat ride is most straight forward and needed between Luzern and the house, but the ride itself is very very enjoyable. That is why I would only recommend this place at Vitznau if you are staying a few good days at Luzern.

Buying the tell pass is very important staying at this place, the boat trip one way cost you around EURO 20, if you don't purchase a pass you would be reluctant to get out. But if you need a quiet time, just staying a few days in this house of Vitznau is an incomparable choice then.

“Beautiful apartment set amongst stunning scenery and owned by a lovely couple.”

The owners of Chateau Schüpbach, 'Cornelia Schwerdel & Frank Schüpbach' were very warm and welcoming. They provided excellent local knowledge and many leaflets of things to do and places to eat in the area.

We were a party of 5, ranging in ages from 16-66 years and stayed for 3 nights from Saturday 14th June to Tuesday 17th June 2014. We booked our stay via Holiday Lettings from TripAdvisor.

We booked and dealt mainly with Frank, who was very helpful and proficient. The booking, the payment, check-in, help while at the apartment and check-out was straight forward and pain free. We had no problems with either the property or the wonderful owners.

The property itself was large and modern, well equipped, immaculately clean, decorated and furnished beautifully and situated close to everything you'd need and all within walking distance.

We loved Vitznau, it's a quiet but beautiful little town, right on the shores of the stunning Lake Lucerne. If you look at images of Vitznau, you'll probably see that there's a church in most shots. The apartment is set right behind this church and is literally a few minutes walk from the lake front, I would think it's doable for all ages and abilities. (photos provided)

All the beds were comfortable, everything worked as it was meant to. The coffee machine was a great crowd pleaser.

Bikes and inflatable kayaks were provided but none of us had the chance to use them during our stay. Parking was right outside the property, making it easy to carry luggage and groceries into the apartment. There are only a few steps from the entrance of the building to the entrance of the apartment...approximately 10.

We made full use of the balcony and ate outside for all the meals we took while at the apartment. If I were to stay for longer, I'd have probably liked a couple of sun lounges for us to lay out on, as the weather during our stay, was beautiful. You don't have a view of the lake from the 1st floor living spaces and balcony, well not in summer when we were there, but you do have a lovely mountain view to one side and a view of the church, which was lovely. You can see the lake from the 2nd floor middle bedroom.

Being so close to the church, you do get a front row seat whenever the church bells ring, on the hour and half hour. It is loud, but we really liked it, it added to the village/small town feel. It does start ringing early, but we were up at around 6am each morning anyway, so it wasn't an issue for us. Other's might find it problematic. I'll be adding a video of this on my WordPress blog post if I can.

The Rigi Bahn, cog railway track runs right behind the apartment, but you never hear it. We didn't realise how close it was, until we came back down from Mount Rigi after a wonderful afternoon spent at the Spa on the mountain (see link at the end of the review), which was a great end to our day.

On that morning we'd set off early, drove to Weggis, which is only a few minutes away...had a quick look around the town and then took the ferry into Lucerne, spending a few hours looking around the beautiful old town. We had lunch overlooking the lake and then came back on the ferry to Weggis (you can get the ferry from Vitznau too if you want).

Taking a ferry on Lake Lucerne was another one of the highlights for us. The scenery is simply beautiful and the whole experience was definitely worth the 250 CHF (return, first class) we paid for the 5 of us. (approximate cost)

From Weggis we took the cable car up Mount Rigi, which was breathtaking. We spent a few hours in the spa and then took the cog railway back down the mountain, into Vitznau. Most of the party walked the few minutes walk back to the apartment, while my husband jumped on a bus in Vitznau to collect the car from Weggis...the buses were regular and reasonably priced.

We could have taken the ferry from Vitznau to Lucerne and then returned to Weggis, but the walk from the lake front in Weggis, to the cable car, is all up hill and takes around 15 minutes for those that are fitter than some in our party. We didn't fancy walking up a steep hill to the cable car after walking around Lucerne all morning, hence us leaving the car near the ferry port in Weggis and driving up to the cable car.

We had booked for my son to do tandem paragliding from Mount Rigi (the mountain right behind us), but it was too windy during our stay, so it was cancelled. We booked it with Beat Kretz of Rigi Gliders, who was very helpful and informative. (See link at the end of the review)

In Vitznau, if you turn right along the lake road, heading towards Weggis, there's a pontoon you can swim out to. It's about a 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive from the apartment. When you get there, you have to walk over a small stony/pebbly beach/bank, which is uncomfortable under foot. I'd recommend you bring something to wear on your feet. There may be other places closer, but this is the one we found and used. Everyone loved this experience. (see photo)

A big plus for us was the WiFi at the apartment.....their WiFi actually worked, unlike most of the other properties we later stayed in, in Italy.

The images provided by the owners do accurately represent the apartment. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this beautiful property. For us, staying in an apartment was far more cost effective than having to pay for 3 separate rooms, for three nights, in a country that is particularly expensive.

We also drove over to Interlaken which took about an hour and a half. The scenery from Vitznau to Interlaken, again, was stunning. The town is nice, but more touristy than other places I've been to in Switzerland...lots of souvenir shops. It's set amongst wonderful scenery and worth a visit for that alone. We took a horse and carriage ride around the pretty town which made a nice break from walking, especially as the temperature was getting close to 30 degrees.

I did a short blog post on Wordpress about our holiday/vacation in June, but will be doing a more in depth post about this property and location, very soon, along with all the other properties and places we stayed during our 16 day vacation to Switzerland and Italy.

If you haven't been to Switzerland, you really should, it's absolutely stunning, especially around Lake Lucerne. Our stay at Chateau Schüpbach was all we could have asked for and more.

Many thanks and warmest regards to Cornelia & Frank for a lovely 3 days stay and a wonderful welcome...I only wish we'd stayed longer.

Adele & Scott J

“A very relaxing and comfortable stay”

Our stay in Vitznau was truly relaxing. The home had everything we needed and more. We were welcomed with beautiful flowers in each room, chocolate bunnies on our beds and a lovely Nespresso coffee maker which brightens up every morning! We enjoyed evenings in (barbequing and watching football) by the fire. Frank was extremely helpful in providing information on the area as well as picked us up and dropped us off at the airport.
If you are looking for a home away from home with gorgeous views, easy walks in the area, a convenient location to visit Rigi Mountains and Lucerne, you can't beat this beautiful apartment.
Thanks Frank!
