Recently travelled Switzerland for four days , Initially thought it was expensive to buy rail pass but when i travelled so far and near around Switzerland, I was amazed by the rail network and their punctuality & connections. Happy to visit again to enjoy this amazing rail journey with natural beauty. Really remarkable.

We did this today and highly recommend it. We had a fantastic tour guide, Serena, who was friendly and had a great sense of humour and knowledge. And we had a safe driver, Luca, who got us down the mountain from St Moritz in one piece. Serena tells you all the amazing things coming up on the journey that are worth a photo and you’re allowed to move from one side of the train to another to get all your shots. Everything is explained and organised without feeling rushed and you get to meet the loveliest people from around the world and enjoy the experience with them. With only 2 and 1/2 days in Milan we’re not sorry we did this.

Bernina express train journey was one of the best decision we took and highly recommend this. The scenic route was beyond imagination with glaciers, tunnels, rivers, houses and the snow-covered mountains. We travelled in early Dec 2017, still fresh in memory. We drove to the station Chur and with designated free spots for passengers we boarded the train which was half empty. Our four-hour journey each way was just incredible. With snow-covered station, we got off at Pachiavo, and with the free meal voucher, we had a 5-star treat for the whole family. Pachiavo is a small town with a river stream and shopping centre gorgeous. We boarded the return train and were again amazed one more time, but we loved it. Through the journey, the weather was fantastic with unobstructed views and just one jacket it turned out well.

We were staying in Milan, there are lots of organised trips involving the Bernina Express but we decided to do it ourselves. We got the train from Milan to Tirano and then left the train station to go across the road to the other station which the Bernina train leaves from. We did not actually get on the Bernina Express train as the windows don't open on this train though they are panoramic windows but would not be good for taking photos. On the regular train the windows opened to half way down so you could hang out the window and get some amazing shots of the snowy countryside. It was like a winter wonderland. There is no food or drink served on the train so bring your own, the journey is about 2 hours and a half to St. Moritz. It was a Monday so most of the shops in St. Moritz were closed but we had a lovely lunch. From the train station in St. Moritz you need to get an escalator up to the town centre but the lake is beside the station which is a lovely photo opportunity. We then did the reverse journey. It is a lot of time on trains but the Bernina train is part of the trip. It is amazing to see the landscape change from sunny Italy to snowy Switzerland.

If you’re in Milan, we highly recommend going on the Bernina Express Tour. If you’re tempted to DIY (we almost always do), do reconsider. There are just too many details to consider that the $$$ savings will not be worth the aggravation, and you wouldn’t know exactly when the great views are coming up (more on that below).

From Milan, we took a bus to Tirano, and there, we did a tour of the Basilica Di Tirano, which is a beautiful Baroque pilgrimage church. We then took the Bernina Express in Tirano to St. Moritz.

We got the tour from Zani Viaggi. We just got to the meeting place on time so we were transferred from English tour to the Spanish tour, which then became English Spanish. It ended up being a blessing in disguise, as our tour guide, Serena, was very good.

Our tour guide reserved the last car of the train for us - which gave us the full view of the train while we were crossing the channel. The views on the left and right sides are both beautiful (there are just a few more views on the left but not enough to fret about). She also told us exactly when to go to which side, so we all got pictures of both views and it made for a fun switcheroo.

Even if we did the tour on a Sunday albeit on an off season, St. Moritz was a ghost town when we got there ( it is a beautiful upscale town). All the shops were closed, except for a handful of restaurants and chocolate shops.

The last picture is not a poster, it’s the view of St. Moritz from the escalator going into the town.

took the morning bernina express from chur to tiran and was an extremely enjoyable experience. The Swiss train service has an excellent reputation and the service we encountered met all our expectations. On arrival at the station extremely help staff helped us find our seats and during the trip were very proffesional and gave commentary on the highlights as well as serving refreshments. The scenery was spectacular and we even had snow at the highest point of the trip.

I’m going to start with the guide. We never got her name, but we went on the tour of Sunday October 7, 2018- English tour. Her English was hard to understand. When a person speak a foreign language it is better to speak slow so people can understand. She never looked at people, just sat down in her own world speaking to the microphone. If someone asked a question, she looked exasperated and didn’t give any answer. She was kind of rude. It was hard to understand her instructions. When we stopped in different towns, we kind to have to figure out what to do by ourselves. Two ladies missed the train because of this. She just gave instructions (with a hard to understand English) one time and that’s it. If it is important, like meeting points, etc. my opinion is they should at least repeat twice so misunderstandings are avoided. I give the lowest score to this tour guide. We could have perfectly done the ride without her.
Now, I’m going to rate the trip itself. The organization to get into the buses in the morning of the trip was kind of chaotic, but once we were in the buses everything was fine.
The trip is beautiful, gorgeous sceneries. Initially we rode in a bus. We had 2 stops for bathroom use. Then we stopped in Tirano for lunch. It is a beautiful town. We didn’t purchase the lunch for 16 euros. We had good pasta and wine for less money. There are many other restaurants in this town. Actually we spent more time in Torino than in St. Moritz. Here is Torino is where we board the train. Everything beautiful. The train is a regular train, there are passenger in an out during the ride. On the information for this trip, it says we would spend 90 minutes in St. Moritz, not true at all; they gave us just 35 minutes. Just walking from train station to St. Moritz is about 10 minutes walking very fast. We just got there and came back. Very disappointed. This trip can perfectly be done taking a train to Torino and then taking the Bernini Express to St. Moritz, it is more expensive probably but it would have been more enjoyable.

I recently went to Milan to see my friend.I wanted to have a day away from Milan. So I booked a tour with company called ZANI VIAGGI. I boarded the bus early. It took us past the length of Lake Como to a beautiful little town called Tirano where we had lunch. We then boarded the Bernina express .We spent about almost 3 hours on the train through the Swiss Alps .Even though there was not much snow the views out the windows were breathtaking. You end up in the ski resort of St.Moritz where you spend about one hour..The tour cost 129 euros but it is worth doing it once.

Our trip on the Bernina Express was delightful. The views were spectacular and it seemed like there was something new to experience around every bend - craggy peaks, glaciers, quaint Swiss train stations, vast fields with grazing cows and aquamarine pools of water. Picture taking can be tough because of the glare off of the windows, but we still captured some interesting shots. To secure seats in the first class car, be sure to book as soon as tickets become available. We booked months in advance. Based on our experience, I would try to book seats near the middle of a car for the best views.

We wanted to experience the Bernina Express railroad and weren’t disappointed.

From the moment we entered the train station the staff were very helpful and the station was spotless.

The train was clean and tidy also and the conductor was lovely. The whole experience I shall never forget and just felt so privileged and lucky to experience this wonderful train ride. Riding in October was so pretty with the stunning views of all different autumnal shades. I shall have to get my paintbrush out .... highly recommended.
