I just spent 3 nights at Hotel Glacier, going hiking and up to the Jungfraujoch. I couldn't have picked a better location. The hotel is a few blocks from the Grund railway station, on the way to the Jungfraujoch, so you don't need to go to the main station. It's very easy to access either set of hiking trails- up on the ridge between Interlaken and Grindelwald, or up to the Eiger-Monch-Jungfrau region.
The hotel is a mom-and-pop kind of place, and in the shoulder season my fellow travelers seemed to be mostly portly white-haired folks fond of their meat and potatoes. It was relaxed and I felt very comfortable eating alone in the dining room. I found the breakfasts great, and don't understand comments otherwise. You get served coffee (with hot milk) or tea, and there's a buffet with several types of great breads, rolls and cracker packets; packaged and local butter; several aged cheeses and a local fresh cheese; and cereals, juices, yogurts, and meats. What's not to like?
My room had a big bath with lots of hot water, and a good shower. Yes, the TV was small but I don't care- and all the channels were in German, which I don't speak. I had a balcony with a view of the Wetterhorn and the street out front, with a table and 2 chairs- so that I had a bird's eye view of the cow bell parade that passed by one evening. There's a balcony/bar in back, on the sunny side, where I enjoyed an apple juice after a sweaty hike.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this very comfortable hotel. If you're looking for flashy, this isn't it, but I felt I got good value in my late September stay.
