This was our second visit to this hotel. My wife and I stayed here in the summer of 2018, during great weather. It has been many years since we were in Switzerland in the winter, so we decided to go back in early March of this year. But the weather was spring-like, with buds on trees, even up in the snowy nearby village of Wengen. We did find the winter wonderland that we look forward to to seeing, however. We just had to travel to nearby higher altitude villages to do so. Those short trips were taken on the excellent regional train system serving the local area, since we did not rent a car for this trip, for the first time after up to ten visits to Switzerland.
This hotel gets the deservedly highest ratings except for value, where it is rated 4.5 out of 5. I disagree. I would rated it 5 for value. Yes, it is expensive, but this hotel is in very expensive Switzerland, after all. Compared to similar hotels, this one is reasonably priced. It is value, after all, not price that is being rated. The hotel offers everything you could want in a small establishment. There is a dinner option which we took. It costs 40 Swiss francs for a three course dinner, with no additional fee for tax or tip. Again, it is not a bargain, but that is less expensive than the cost of other village restaurants where we went for lunch. But more importantly, the food is excellent. It is gourmet quality. We never had anything less than excellent food.
The family who owns and operates the hotel are wonderful. We were picked up and dropped off at the village train station. All service was tendered with a smile.
I can say nothing at all except to praise the hotel to the highest. It is cozy in a way that can only be found in Switzerland. The family makes some addition or renovation every year to keep the hotel up to date without losing any of its abundant charm. This place is a FIND. We look forward to staying in the years to come.
