“Nice, but far away from center”
Reviewed 29 October 2011

Nice hotel with a good breakfast, but a bit far away from the center. You can take the train into the center which leaves every 10 minutes or so, as well as a bus. Good if visiting the convention center.

Hotel is a fair walk, or bus ride from the city centre. Whilst it's nice to walk there by the river, if you then walk around the old town, you might want to consider getting a taxi (less than 10Euros) or a bus (EUR 2.50) back to the Hotel.

The hotel is a big business hotel, and so I was surprised at how long it took to check everyone in. It was something like 10 minutes per person, or room. Each time we wanted to ask a question, there was quite a long queue.

The good things:
The breakfast choice is vast, and the quality is good, from fresh fruit salad, to freshly baked bread rolls and croissants. Even fruit pies and little cakes. Plus the usual, hot food, and cold meats and cheeses.
The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was big and clean and included a bath.
The bar had a good choice of beers, and we ordered some food, which we all enjoyed.

Less good things:
The service at the reception desk was painfully slow. Also, when booking I was over charged for the city tax, which I had to discuss twice to get sorted out.
I had to ask for a bath towel - twice, and I then realised that I didn't have a bath mat either.
Considering the prices we all paid, it seemed strange to have such average service.

I hope to find somewhere in the same price region, and more centrally located next time.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 1st 2 floors are for smokers, so if you don't like smoke, ask for a room from t...

The NH Hotel Maastricht is a typical "big-size" hotel ideally located for visitors to the MECC Exhibition and Congress center. To visit the tourist and shopping center of Maastricht it is necessary to use the car and undergo the pains of finding a paid underground parking place. We preferred to take a nearby train at Maastricht Randwyck station, a short walk. Within 4 mins it took us to central Maastricht. Information was given in detail by the reception staff.
The hotel room was spacious and clean. So was the shower-type bathroom. I am not sure if there is airco. We used the bar and breakfast facilities and found these in accordance with the general status. The breakfast room was crowded but run efficiently. A detail: the coffe was absolutely fresh-made in a "do-it-yourself" coffee and espresso machine.
There is a CCTV guarded hotel garage at extra price and free WIFI in the lobby.
A pleasant congress and exhibition hotel with friendly staff.

A friend stayed here for a week in May and I got to see the hotel several times, and would recommend it. It was very well priced in Maastricht at £70 or so a night, the rooms are large, well furnished and comfortable. The downstairs lobby and bar are of a high standard, the staff friendly and the food and drinks both high quality and well priced. It is in a great location for the conference centre, but also for staying in Maastricht at a good price, you can easily travel into (or walk) town. Recommended.

Just 10 drive from the city center where you may park under the Vrijthof for a quick entrance into the city. The hotel is in a quite environment, certainly during the weekend

After reading the many reviews on this hotel, I didn't have much expectations, or at least any positive vibes about this hotel. And I was very pleasantly surprised that on contrary to all the reviews, our room was impeccably clean, tidy, modern and big (it was a corner room, and it was also because I travelled with my family and therefore needed a bigger than normal room to accomodate my toddler and my baby as well as my husband).

The breakfast had a wide selection of cooked items (eggs, sausages, bacon, tomato/cheese), cakes, cereals, fruit, breads/toast, cold cuts, and juices, coffee/tea/hot choc. And on Sundays, the breakfast was available till 12, and checkout was late (till 5!) with no extra charge.

It was vv convenient for the MECC which was the reason why we chose this hotel, but on the days that I was working, my husband took our children on the train into Maastricht central, and even walked down into the city (which took 15 min - with a 3 year old and an 8 month old!).

We didn't try the sauna/gym but we were informed as to the charges etc at reception so no nasty surprises if we had decided. There was also free wi-fi available at the lobby (so you could take your laptops/iphones into the lobby). Wi-fi needs to be paid for if you access from the rooms.

all in all, a very good stay and if we had to be at the MECC again, I would definitely stay here again.

The breakfast is ok, the staff is nice, but the rooms are absolutely a no go. Very outdated, although they probably are clean, they don't look that way. Lots of stains on the carpet and in the bathroom. The shower curtain even had real fungus on it and their was a leak in the shower/bath.
The only reason for staying here is the location next to the MECC, but even then the alternatives in the city centre are much better.
