“Mediocre for the price”
Reviewed 10 November 2010

Room at breakfast cost €183. Just not good enough for the price. Room very 3 star and rather tired. Breakfast choice rather bad quality. Staff nice - but not when they walk into your room at 8am....

Just not good enough - unless you're paying half what I did.

Stayed here for 2 nights in june. Have stayed now in all the Moevenpick hotels in Holland (3 in total) and rate this one the mediocre one. Voorburg comes in last and Amsterdam wins big time. This one compared the most to Voorburg as a location, though wins in service. Let's sum up the good and bed... err bad.

The location seems what out of the range for Den Bosch (or 's-Hertogenbosch... it is the same city with 2 names, which can be confusing to foreigners, like in taking the train, going for Den Bosch and only see 's-Hertogenbosch... well, don;t be confused anymore). It is located on the ourside of town in business district near offices and the 'provinciehuis' (province government building). So I guess during the week a lot of business and government people are guest here. Parking is 7,50 per day (unless it is already in your fee). Very close to the hotel is a P+R area where you can park a car as a city visitor and all the passengers can take a bus to the city center for 2 euro for the whole party. A good deal, even for those sleeping in the Moevenpick. It is bus 80, which goes from the St Jan Cathedral to the P+R area near the Mövenpick. Parking for 2 hours in the city center is more expensive.

The hotel looks likea 3 star hotel, so do the rooms and the decor. Nothing charming, nothing appaling either.

Checkin was good, as was the overall service level in this hotel, including breakfast.

The bad of the stay was the bed. As stated in many reviews before me: the beds are too hard (even though I have experienced even harder bed in many hotels in Mexico). It males sleeping difficult, especially when sleeping on your back. Other downside of the bed for 2 people, was 2 covers. I prefer a double bed with one big cover, instead of 2 smaller ones. As sleeping is an important part of a hotel visit, I have to rate this one very low because of the hard beds.

The room was very clean. The bathroom very basic, a small bath (which was also the shower), a toilet and bidet.

The tv had most of the dutch channels and some international ones (incl. news in english).

The breakfast was basic: bread, sweet bread, cereal, fruits, drinks, eggs... The service was very welcoming.

So basically: staff very friendly, the deserve a beter hotel, as the facilities were quite average.

Stayed here already x-times and was there again at the end of September. Typicall business hotel in a business area, so a car would be an advantage, although taxi’s and public transport are available at reasonable rates. The hotel has a strategic location and within 2 minutes you are on the central highway. Very, very convenient.

Hotel public areas are clean and welcoming, especially the lobby corner where one can sit and have his coffee in the morning without being disturbed, reading your free newspaper. Great way to wake up…!

Staff: Couldn’t wish for more. Always polite and they will go out of their way to assist you. After one day, they already know you by name and my guess was that the hotel was well occupied.

Rooms: Perfect. What more do you need when you are on a business trip? Clean, comfortable and with all facilities such as minibar, wireless internet and a TV with sufficient national and international channels. Very practical and nice bathroom. Good pressure on the shower (which is very hard to find in hotels around the world), and I just love their mascotte, the little yellow plastic bath-duck. Can’t agree with previous reviews re. the pillows and matrasses. I think they are great and most comfortable.

Only one small default I can think of is that the service in the lobby bar corner is a bit slow and one really has to make an effort to draw the attention of the staff when you want to order your next coffee. But then again, really minor detail and the friendliness of the staff makes up for it.

Having had experience with other hotels in the areas (although hotel offer is limited), this is definitely your best option and I am already looking forward to my next stay. Won’t hesitate to recommend this hotel.

  • Liked — firendliness of staff, service, location
  • Disliked — really liked everything

The Moevenpick is a business-oriented hotel, located just off of the A2 near s-Hertogenbosch / Vucht in central Netherlands. It is part of a modern office park, which says a lot about the hotel: there are ornamental lakes and sculptures, modern glass and metal offices, and few people outside of 9-5. The hotel is located near the edge of the park by the highway: it is comfortable and sterile, with competent meals and efficient service, but little else to commend it to a traveler.***
I stayed at the hotel in conjunction with a week-long language immersion at the nearby Regina Coeli Taleninstituut (definately the place to go if you need to learn Dutch!). As such, i was only there overnight from 9 pm to 8 am, so impressions are necessarily limited.***
There is a gated parking area: passage in and out is handled through validated coupons at the desk. The ground floor has meeting rooms and a restaurant, the guest rooms are upstairs and are reached via an elevator or steps. Check-in was efficient and friendly, and instructions for my course were waiting and I was directed to the meeting without delay.***
The breakfasts are the high point: there is a full buffet with cereals, English breakfast foods, fruit, chease and meat, breads, and fruits that starts from 6:30. There are no 'cook to order' services. Coffee is carried around by a single waitress, so it can be a bit hard to get a refill: the tables outside are nice if the weather is good, and you can sit at the bar if you want to spread out. The hotel has a 'spa' on the top level, but no pool or fitness facilities otherwise.***
The rooms are scandanavian spartan: blond wood and white linens, a TV that has a good variety of movies and Dutch / German / UK / US programs, and a safe. There is, curiously, a USB connection to what seems to be a dial-up modem available as a free internet connection; the front desk gives you a full page of instructions for using it if you ask...otherwise you might never know it's there or what it is. There is also wireless in-room access for about 12 euro per day through Swisscom. I didn't think the bed was uncomfortable, but there was significant traffic noise from the nearby highway. The bathroom has a tub and hand shower, good hot water, moderate pressure. Curiously, again, it has a bidet and piped in sound from the TV. There is nightly turndown service unless you ask not to have it.. The minibar is outrageously expensive.***
Overall, it worked as a place to sleep and to study: the hotel is run efficiently and unobtrusively, and the breakfasts were generous. Still, it's somewhat forgettable and located in a sterile area: you will need a car to get to anything worth seeing or doing in the area (20 euro cab fare to nearby Vucht, for example).

We've stayed here for 1 night in a superior room. That wasn't anything special though, except some extras as coffee and tea making facilities, a bathrobe and some slippers... The room itself was clean, but tiny. The beds were just horrible! Rock hard mattresses and super soft pillows; it was just like sleeping on concrete or something... The bathrooms had soap and shampoo dispensers instead of the usual small plastic bottles etc. Kind of cheap if you ask me.

The staff at the reception and in the restaurant was most friendly and courteous. The food was more than ok, as was the breakfast buffet which had more choices than a usual 4 star hotel.

The hotel is clearly a business hotel: far outside of the city centre on a business park just off the highway. If you're planning to go into town, be sure you have someone with you who doesn't like alcohol and doesn't mind to drive back, since public transport isn't really nearby...

All in all not that bad, but they just should have put the stuff that's in the mattresses, in the pillows and vice versa...

This Movenpick has a great restaurant, bar and breakfast. But the rooms are small, the beds are very firm and the pillows very very soft. So don't expect a good night sleep.

This hotel is not in the citycentre, so expect a busride of 20 minutes.

As you would expect from a Movenpick, it is a good standard, if somewhat pricey, business hotel. However, expect to get stiffed on things like wireless internet connection at 22 euro per night. I struggled to get a dial up connection and was left with little choice but to pay.

The bar has generally one person working so if things get busy be prepared to have to wait.

This hotel is really nothing special so if you are looking for something with a bit of character i would suggest looking for something elsewhere.
