Superberbly located on Sinnel Canal so central to top 10 attractions.Staff were extremely friendly & polite and hotel & public areas were nicely decorated in a traditional style. Presence of free coffee & pastries of an afternoon made for a relaxing time before venturing into the restaurant district.
We chose a classis room which was located in the central part of the hotel therefore overlooked by other guest bedrooms & a glass fronted elevator. Unable to leave curtains open early am & pm for privacy. Noise from adjacent room was disturbing as and when occupants arrived back.
Would recommend but given the choice pay the canel view supplement.

Fantastic location. Great resturants, shops all within walking distance. The rooms are small and for all the glowing reviews I guess I expected more. The lobby, library is first class. The staff is young, and some are destined to have a career in hospitality and others must be biding their time for the their next career opportunity. The housekeeping personnel cared the most about guests.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights in late January and we really picked the perfect place. The location is great - near everything and easy to find. Very close to the tram and the train station. The room was huge for Europe and the bathroom was gorgeous with a jetted tub and a separate shower and two sinks. There was plenty of room for both of us and all of our luggage, clothes, etc. You do have to pay for the internet which is a little annoying, but it was something like 10 or 12 euro for 24 hours. The only real problem was the noise one night - we had a room that shared a door with another room and our neighbors were pretty loud, shouting and packing, but I'm sure it was more them than any problem with the room. The lobby is beautiful and there are always people there to help you. You do have to leave your key when you go out but it's not inconvenient at all. Overall, great value, great location, big room and the perfect place to stay.

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. It was our 20th Wedding anniversary and we mentioned this in our communications with the hotel, so when we arrived it was very sweet to see a box of chocs and a note in our room from the staff. We loved the free coffee, hot chocolate and tea in reception and there were biscuits and cakes at times too. The public rooms were very comfortable and it was easy to find a quiet corner.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did not have breakfast here, we preferred to eat a croissant in a cafe on the corner. We had a room looking out onto the canal, which we appreciated and we found the location quiet enough to sleep in quite well, but on the edge of things to do and see. The beds and linen were excellent, if the bathroom could do with a little attention (room 307). We also think the WiFi should be free.

Hotels in Amsterdam are not specially cheap...so, at the end, after looking at quite a lot of hotels, we finally decided to stay at the Estherea (mostly because of its location, right downtown, and because it was not the typical chain hotel).

We definately were right with our election, since the Estherea is within walking distance of all the major sights and the train station (which is crucial when coming from the airport of if you travel around the Netherlands). In addition, there is free internet and free coffee/tea/hot chocolate service 24/7 for the guests, which is really appreciated after coming back following a hard day walking around, and the decoration is great (it feels as if you were at some one's home...really cozy in the Winter).

On the other hand, taking into account the price of the hotel: (a) the breakfast is basic and poor. Something to improve; (b) the rooms are tiny (almost too small). Nonetheless, the bathrooms are modern and the rooms are nicely furnished; and (c) the front desk service was not the best (I would say it has been probably the worst we have had in the last weeks...and we stay at hotels every single weekend).

All in all, the Estherea is a great choice to stay when in Amsterdam.

I think that my impression was a little affected by my very high expectations after reading previous reviews... overall, I thought it was a nice little hotel with good value for money, but not a clear stand-out over other places I've stayed in Amsterdam, like 717 or the Roemer.

My room was cozy, comfortable and very clean, the staff were very helpful and the location is nice - quite central and with canal views. The gym was small but clean and modern, and there was also decent (not free) internet and a nice breakfast.

For me it was actually the decor that got me - it is totally beautiful in its way, but just too full on for a business trip! However I would totally recommend Estherea for a romantic holiday and for any older travellers : )

the hotel is situated in the center of the city, so a perfect location for discovering the old town and close to the public transportlines (tram, bus); the rooms are very clean and cosy, the reception was friendly and helpfull, so were the other staffmembers; the rooms and the hotel lobby are of the classic/romantic "warm" type, it is very pleasant that you can get coffee or tea complimentary all day and of good quality; the breakfast is also very nice and with a good price/quality ratio.
What is on the rather negative site: not much, but the wifi should be free of charge, now it costs 10€/24h ( although there are 2 computers in the lobby where you can acces the internet free). The acoustic isolation of the adjacent rooms and the windows on the street site could be better. But globaly I was very pleased with the choise of this hotel, that I found via tripadvisor by the way...
