Great friendly hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 21, 2025via mobile
Very friendly staff and so helpful. It was my friend’s birthday they left the room decorated which was a great touch.
Thank you David for helping us with our stay.
Rooms have what you need for a short break.
It’s a fair distance walking from the centre about 45 mins but the area has its own charm and there’s lots of coffee stops on the way to the centre.
Date of stay: January 2025
Room Tip: Be prepared to walk or get the tram to the centre

We booked the Delphi for a long weekend visiting Amsterdam. The hotel is a short walk from the hustle and bustle and this suited us fine.

The premises is superbly clean and decorated beautifully in a sort of modern/retro twist. Free hot drinks and snacks/fruit are provided. A limited warm food menu and bar drinks selection round out the lounge requirements.

Our room was very well presented, flawlessly clean and very spacious. Hot drinks facilities and a small welcome snack basket where a nice touch.

The icing on the cake of the Delphi are its wonderful staff- everyone one of whom where pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. Each more than willing to help and do so smiling. Very well done Delphi.

It will be a pleasure to visit again in the future.

Room tip: The Delphi is perfect if you are capable of a 15 minute stroll to the bar/restaurant/sights

Nice hotel, good sized room which was clean, friendly staff and great location, not based right in the centre, but only about 25 mins walk.

We were given a ‘goody-bag’ on arrival with bottled water and snacks.

The only constructive feedback I would give is…
Although there is tea making facilities in the room, there are no spoons and the mugs were not replaced daily.

We loved our stay at this charming hotel. We stayed for three nights with our teenagers who stayed in their own room. (Most rooms in this hotel will only fit two people). The rooms are clean and simple and straightforward. Breakfast was delicious and the lounge area was a great place to sit with a cup of coffee throughout the day. What really makes this hotel is the friendly staff. They are quick to help, problem solve, make a recommendation. This hotel is walkable from the main tourist area but not in the midst of it (about 15 minutes to the Rijksmuseum and 45 minutes to the Anne Frank House).

They were undergoing some renovations when we were there, which we were warned about, and it was not a problem because we were gone from the hotel during the work times.

I never write negative reviews unless they are fully deserved -- and they are here. I arrived at the Delphi on July 14, to discover the building entirely surrounded by scaffolding draped in blue tarp. Room views are entirely blocked by the tarp. I complained bitterly about not being informed in advance (I would have changed hotels) and was told "sorry" and the few rooms without the tarp are not available until 2 days later. I tried to move to another hotel but rooms are solidly booked in Amsterdam. So I had little choice but to stay there. I awoke the next morning to find a man standing right outside my window doing maintenance work (if you don't believe it, see the photo). In the end, the hotel moved me on day 3 to a 4th floor room (which was nice) and discounted the room with the worker by a paltry 25% for the 2 nights I had to stay there.

I was NOT informed in advance; instead, there was a typed note in my room telling me about "upcoming maintenance" and apologizing for "any disruption this may cause to your stay." Surely, the Delphi management can do better than that. Guests who care about natural light and views should be paid to stay there, rather than be charged over $300/night.

It's too bad that deception on the part of the management ruined my visit, b/c otherwise the place seemed nice. There was a nicely presented breakfast and the front-desk staff, especially Antonio, were understanding and helpful. The location was excellent for touring and getting to business locations.

Before booking, call the hotel and ask if the scaffolding is still there.

Room tip: Call in advance to ask if the scaffolding is still covering the windows.

The Delphi Amsterdam Townhouse, General Manager at The Delphi - Amsterdam Townhouse, responded to this reviewResponded August 18, 2024

Dear Suji,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Delphi. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations due to the scaffolding and construction work during your visit.

First and foremost, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. We understand how frustrating it must have been to arrive and find the scaffolding obstructing your view. We want to assure you that we had set up notifications to inform all our guests about the construction at the time of booking, and we also offered the option to cancel without any penalties. It appears there was an unfortunate system error in your case, and for that, we are truly sorry.

We also wanted to clarify that during your stay, we provided a complimentary room upgrade and applied a 25% discount to your entire stay as a gesture of goodwill. While we regret that this did not fully compensate for the disruption, we hope it demonstrated our commitment to making your stay as comfortable as possible under the circumstances.

We are pleased to inform you that the construction is now complete, and the scaffolding has been removed. We would love the opportunity to welcome you back to The Delphi, where we can offer you the flawless experience you rightfully expected. Your positive comments about our staff, especially Antonio, and our location mean a lot to us, and we hope these aspects will encourage you to consider staying with us again.

Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have the chance to serve you better in the future.

Warm regards,

David
Operations Manager.

The hotel was completely covered in scaffolding due to work, that had not been communicated to us. The hotel staff and manager didn't do nothing about the complaints. Despite the view of scaffolding and construction (the hotel was completely packed), we had a great overnight stay without construction nuisance, but that was because no work took place during the weekend. It is a shame that they are too arrogant to respond politely to our complaints by email, otherwise we would have happily returned after the renovation. This is really a huge disappointment.

Room tip: Don't think about friendly and helpful hotel service.
