“Great location & great value!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2012

I booked this hotel with some trepidation, but as we were only staying for 1 night I was more bothered about location than luxury. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival - NO funny smells in the reception area or rooms. Spacious room (118) that was spotlessly clean looking out over the front of the hotel. The bathroom looked quite new and had plenty of hot water.
You have to realise that this is NOT a 4 star hotel and you are not paying 4 star prices.

The location was perfect. 5 minutes walk from the centraal station, steps away from the Damrak with all it's shops and restaurants and just around the corner from the lively red light district.
As a first timer to Amsterdam I was a little concerned that the hotel was practically in the red light district, but I needn't have worried as we walked around we felt really safe and it wasn't as seedy as I expected.
The only negatives I could find were that there was some noise from the church bells and delivery vans etc early in the morning, however as you are smack bang in the middle of a capital city this is to be expected. Also there was a cigarette burn in one of the chairs in the room which made it look tatty.
Minor gripes and the location made up for any of the negatives.

If I were to go back to Amsterdam I would return to the Tulip Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter but have no decent view.

Book another hotel.. It smells funny in the reception, and in our first room the smell was unbearable, we then got another room. The hotel is very worn out and does really need a renovation! We did not get a lot of sleep because of noicy neigbours. The location is perfect!

ok, maybe the breakfast is a bit plain, but im never up in time to eat anyway

Room Tip: for a single guy [or couple] room 21 is the best imho, no stairs or lifts reqd, 5 secs from receptio...

I spent my last evening here to be close to the train station and upgrade from my previous accomodation. When I arrived I was given the key and directed to my room which turned out it hadn't been cleaned yet. Directions along the passageways to room numbers were incorrect also. I returned to the desk and they gave me a cleaned room. For the 25 Eu upgade I got my own bathroom, wifi had to be purchased at 12Eu/day, there was no complimentary breakfast and the room facing the street behind was quite noisy despite the double insulated window.

Just returned from 2 nights here. Hotel staff lovely & helpful! Room was huge for the 3 of us with lovely comfty beds. Can't fault hotel, yes it looks a little tired. But for the money you get a lot!
Very close to everything. 5 minute walk from central station. Red light 3 minutes away.
Must eat at wok to walk!
I will definitely be returning to this hotel!
