After a cordial exchange of several emails with management from XO Hotels Park West, the hotel refused to refund my non-refundable payment for a one night stay.
My family was planning to travel to Europe next week for spring holiday. Since we're now prohibited from traveling to Europe due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had to cancel a number of flights, hotels, excursions, etc. Many of these were non-refundable. ALL of the travel companies issued me a full refund despite several of them being non-refundable, EXCEPT this hotel.
Here is what the explanation was from hotel management:
"Covid-19 is already hitting the travel industry hard, but if everyone would receive a refund from all hotels in the world, how would any hotel survive?"
Yes, it is absolutely hitting the travel industry hard. It is also hitting other industries and families hard, as well. Government support is also likely for industries severely impacted by the pandemic. So why are you the only travel operator that is not refunding customers when it is impossible for them to travel to your hotel?
Well, just this past May 2019, the Netherlands travel board said the country is challenged with too many tourists. A headline from The Guardian last May said "'We must act now': Netherlands tries to control tourism boom."
What have you done with all of your profits from this tourism boom?
