Hampshire Hotel - Rembrandt Square Amsterdam
Ranked #164 of 373 Hotels in Amsterdam
Reviewed 5 April 2012

The hotel offers quality standards. The reception staff is professional, smiling and helpful. The location is absolutely perfect in the very centre of Amsterdam, 20 meters away from the '9' and '14' tram stops. There is plenty of cafes and restaurants around. We were assigned with a room with a glassy toilet (divided by a glass wall only). We asked to change it with a room offering more privacy and they satisfied our request without any problem. The negative part is that our room was not cleaned for two days (on a total of three nights stay) nor the tea/coffee making facilities were refurbished. We complained at the reception and the room was cleaned immediately after. The safe deposit box got locked, and after two days (as it was the weekend) the staff managed to unlock it. I would definitely recommend it, anyway!

Needed to book a hoel at the very last minute and found this hotel on Laterooms.com. At €109 for the night, it was fine for a quick one night stayover. Room was clean and fine in size for one person. Overall, I would say the hotel looks a bit tired but surprised to read negative reviews about either the state of the room or the reception staff who I thought were professional in their customer service. As this hotel is just off Rembrandt Square, make sure you get a back room (mine was) which helps keep the noise down, especially when so close to a really busy square. whilst ataying at this hotel, make sure you go to 'Lo Stivale D'Oro' - Italian Restaurant over the road - seperate review written. To get to the hotel, the no 9 tram goes past the front door - get off at Rembrant Square and follow the tram line (past the Azax Exhibition on the corner) and you will walk directly to the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a back room

This hotel is the only one to use. Bang on Rembrandt square, which is the top end of Amsterdam but also close the shops and museums etc you want to see! And the lights! Took my girlfriend and 2 buddies. Came home late, was still served a beautiful steak, ordered breakfast after hours no problem, checked out late no hassle! The type of place you want when your trying to squeeze so much into a short stay! Treated like a king! Love it, definitely recxoment for family's for a quiet one as well as the lads as its 2 mins from the bars! It's not too close though so you don't hear a thing once your back! Make sure you book the Hampshire, Eden is just as nice (sister hotel) but hampshires a star up! Enjoy

Booked Eden Rembrant Square but found we were in the conjoined Hampshire. Upgraded to executive room so very pleased with the comfort and facilities of the room, dressing gown and slippers always a nice luxury. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful.

Can't of course comment on the Eden other than the modern foyer and helpful concierge. Eden does look out onto the canal, a big plus but from the outside the windows look shabby. Hampshire has no view other than directly into an open plan office suite. Either hotel very well located just off the lovely Rembrant Plein.

The number 9 tram from Central Station stand A takes you to Rembrant Plein. Our first conductor had run out of one day tickets (best value) which made the short trip on a one hour ticket more expensive €3.60 each.

If doing the very doable walk to the hotel go left out the station, cross road and head up past Newmarket. Very picturesque by the canal, very Amsterdam. If you go straight over the road from the station as you may be inclined to do as it signs 'Centre' you go up the main drag to Dam Square. Not so picturesque because of long term road works and not in view of canal.

Either way Amsterdam is all very walk able and a great, entertaining city. Sitting under red lights made some interesting photos! As ever the drunk groups of Brit men an embarrassment but to be fair they gather in the most obvious places and clearly enjoy! Just don't travel DFDS ferry with them, that's another story. Flying KLM was perfect, short, easy flight, great times and airport connections.

Tip: hire bikes, it's the only way to travel

Room Tip: Ask for upgrade in the Hampshire. If you really want a canal view ake sure you're in the Eden

Horrible rooms and not cleaned
If you book a standard room your room is just in front of the tram track with a lot of noise
People at the reception not polite and ugly
Bathroom dirty and dust everywhere in the room
Is this a 4 star hotel!?!
Come on!!!
Location only make sense but there are plenty of hotels in this area.

This should be a nice hotel, hade a nice lobby, pianobar, bar, big reception, nice rooms. We tought. With clooser look it was mug in the room, water damage of some sort, and the bed hadnt been cleaned under for at least a year. It was very dusty, and an allergic couldnt have lived here. When we were leaving the consergie insisted on ordering us a taxi, and it was 12 euros more costly to the airport, then a ordinary city taxi.
We ordered breakfast to the room one day, and as a tip, just order for one, it is more then enough food for two, and there is a cofee maker in the room.
