Description: Restaurant Vermeer just opposite Amsterdam’s Central Station in the Barbizon Palace Hotel is one of the finest restaurants in the city. The luxurious Old Dutch décor – marble tiled floors, monumental fireplaces, Delft tiles and plates, austere chandeliers – does suggest something of the master painter’s interiors. But it would take more than a servant-girl’s pearl earring wages to properly enjoy a meal at Vermeer. This is Michelin-starred, high-end, complex, refined European cuisine under the deft hand and watchful eye of Chris Naylor. The menu includes various irresistible multi-course and tasting options, and, while it changes with the season, offers dishes like starter of caviar and Colchester oysters served with veal tongue, truffle, red beet and seaweed chutney, main course of penne pasta with pheasant, walnuts, acorn bread and oloroso crème, and dessert of custard tart with figs, muscovado sugar and raisins. The wine list includes more than 300 labels, and you’ll want to avail yourself of the excellent sommelier’s opinions. Two private rooms can accommodate up to 20 or 30 respectively for memorable celebrations and events.

Every course beautiful, dramatic, imaginative. Our 2 adventurous children were well looked after. They were willing to try everything, anything containing alcohol was carefully adjusted without any fuss

We ate here to mark a special occasion, and it was a very memorable meal - from the nibbles that accompanied the pre-dinner drinks to the menu (simply a list of ingredients that would appear sometime during the course of the meal), from the impeccable service to the element of surprise that accompanied the arrival of each course, from the wine pairings to to the understated way in which the younger members of our party were accommodated, from the wonderful flavours to the creative combinations of quality ingredients.
An unforgettable meal.

We Had dinner at the Vermeer for our 33rd wedding anniversary.
This was a dinner to remember .
Very large and peaceful restaurant space . very professional service , actually more of choreography then just serving food to the table.
Most of the time we had no idea what are we eating , and this is what we look for when we visit such a highly ranked restaurant
Food was delicious. staff great. location- very centrally located and easy to reach.
very recommended!!

This is a fascinating place to eat. You are constantly surprised by unexpected combinations which really do work. The amuses appear challenging but are an explosion of complementary tastes. The meal (we had 5 courses) was excellent, building upon solid foundations of excellent ingredients, and making them into stimulating sensations of sensual satisfaction.
The wines were also excellent and decent value for money. The sommelier is excellent and very knowledgeable, without being imposing or pushy.
All in all, very enjoyable and journey of discovery in a safe pair of hands. The chef is really good and produces a wonderful experience.

Very impressive. Thoughtful and prompt service. Professional, chic but relaxed. People are enjoying themselves here and the cooking is wonderful. Unpretentious but rich in flavors and creative in combinations. The wine list was also quite good; they may want to add more experimental wines though, for the adventurous types. Everything was prompt and pleasant. The cooking was in balance and absolutely delicious all round. There were no duds. Perhaps the prices are a little lofty, especially the wines. On the other hand, they do perhaps deserve their premium pricing given the outstanding cooking and service. Highly recommended.
