One of best Japanese I have had in a long time. Great gyoza, sashimi, dashi tofu, seaweed salad and an amazing selection of sakes. The place is small and packet with locals. Bookings only between 6-7pm thereafter you turn up and queue. But well worth it. Special mention to great waiter and sake buyer Joao who looked after us so well.

Thank LoveRSA

Really great little place. Short but excellently selected menu. We had a little bit of everything and it was all good. We particularly liked the sea-break gyozas and the beef tataki. It's also worth noting that the sushi had a slim collar of rice, showing real precision and care in preparing. Afterwards we went a few doors down for an excellent mescal cocktail at the Miami bar. Such a great part of town.

You know those moments when you have a big lunch or have too many snacks before dinner that you end up being hungry around midnight? Well, if you have a soft spot for Japanese food like I do, then De Japanner is practically made for you. This place offers food from 18.00-01.00 daily and on Fridays they keep their doors open until 03.00! What makes De Japanner special? Not only do their opening times make us happy but so does they're delicious food. Accompany your sushi, Chicken Katsu or Salmon Tataki with a refreshing Japanese beer or an aromatic sake to complete the full experience of dining at De Japanner. To conclude: the service is really good, the food is delicious and the whole dining atmosphere is just perfect. Nice casual vibe and I bet you will be coming back here often...

In a couple of months I will be traveling to Japan and during a recent visit to Amsterdam I wanted to try some of the local Japanese restaurants. Online we came across the Japanner which had recently opened and was getting good reviews. It was close by so we decided to swing by without a reservation. As we arrived early in the evening there was a spot available but I would try and book in advance if possible.

The atmosphere was very unique because it was a mix of Amsterdam hospitality combined with a Japanese style interior. I felt like the combination worked very well.

As for the food, we were up for it and tried as many different dished on the menu as possible. Some stood out more than others but overall they were all of a very good quality. Particularly memorable are the squid fries. On top of that, the drinks selection was varied and the staff was able to advice us on our selections. On that note, the service was spot on.

Surprisingly the total bill came to about 62 euro's excluding tip. Considering we had lots of dishes and about 4 drinks I thought was very reasonable. All things considered, I'd definitely go back again.

We were recommended this place by a lovely local who was giving us a beer tour. We were unable to book but was quickly seated at the bar whilst we waited. The restaurant is small but cosy and exhibited the standard minimalist Japanese decor most Japanese eateries exhibit. The cocktail menu was sublime and for my boyfriend, the beer choices were great. We proceeded to order several tapas-style dishes including the chicken katsu, spinach salad, mixed sushi rolls. The food was well seasoned and the portions were appropriate for us. The only criticism was the sharpness of the ginger which we are not used to. In addition there was a couple next to us who were full on making out in front of their child which was a bit weird! However this did not make a huge impact on our evening and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Lovely staff as well.
