Owner description: When you visit Utrecht you will notice the Domtoren almost immediately. The 14th century tower is the heart of the old city centre. At 112 metres, it remains the highest church tower in the Netherlands. The Domtoren is open all year round, and the view of Utrecht is worth seeing in every season. The tower can only be visited as part of a guided tour, during which our expert guides will take you on a historical journey. The tour starts in the Tourist Information Centre on Dom Square and takes about an hour. The Domtoren is in need of extensive restoration work on the exterior and the restoration will take about 5 years (2019-2024) The Domtoren is open for visitors as normal. No work will be done on the inside of the tower so you can visit the chapels and belfry. When you come outside on the galleries at 70 meters and 95 meters you will see some scaffolding but the view is unchanged and as impressive as always. And you get the unique opportunity to see the work up close!

On a sunny day you can even see the sea! I loved climbing the tower. It's such a majestic place. The room with the bells is spectacular. There are hundreds of steps to climb, be prepared!!!!!!!

Very historic and worth climbing the 465 steps. You stop off 3 times before you get to the top. The guide was very good. You get very close up to the bells which is something you do not normal get to do. It is timed so it does not get crowded.

My 50+ husband and I climbed to the top. Easy - even with his bad knee. The staircase is very narrow at the top.

We’ve climbed lots of bell towers. This is average in height and interest but does offer a fantastic view of the plaza below and the outline ( in black tile) of the former nave of the church adjacent.

The tower is under repair for another year, so picture taking at the top is somewhat obstructed by scaffolding. The history of the bells was interesting. The young guide Laura was friendly and professional.

I climbed the 465 stairs to the top. The tour was very good. The guide was informative and had very good answers. I liked the fact that it was not a straight climb but that there were different stops along the way to catch our breath and to learn something. The view from the top was spectacular. I loved the fresh air and the sun and looking all around Utrecht. It was worth every aching muscle.

Keep in mind that the tower is undergoing construction. We were unable to see the carillon machine and some of the view inside was limited.

Set in a beautiful square and visible for miles the Dom tower is very imposing from the ground level: didn’t have enough time on my visit to climb up plus had luggage in tow: restoration due to start later in the year so check it out soon or it might be under scaffolding for a while
