King Foeng Surinamese fast-food bar is a household name in this lively multicultural part of Rotterdam. It is run by Chinese people from the former Dutch slave colony of Suriname, which makes the food interesting with its mixture of African, Caribbean, Chinese, Indonesian and Indian cuisines.
Both the exterior and the interior of King Foeng look and feel like a typical canteen rather than a restaurant. Style-wise, the whole place is a disaster with cheap furniture and a claustrophobically small toilet with no soap or towels. The menu plate on the wall in bright blue with white letters is so ugly that it hurts your eyes.
Fortunately and far more importantly, the food is fairly good. Last time I had the Saoto soup and the hot chicken roll. The soup was more than OK, filled with plenty of bean sprouts and chicken. The roll was tasty as well, although it was not spicy as usual.
The prices are an absolute bonus and you can have a full meal for less than 10 Euro.
Right between average and very good (3.5 out of 5).
