Very good welcome at reception. Rooms amazing with dressing gown, flannel shampoos etc., soft towels. Querky rooms had upstairs with shower and wash basin. WC on entrance level as was large comfortable double bed, table chair and easy chair.
Only logistic problem was no hand basin in the wc, so have to go upstairs to wash hands!
Only stayed one night, if staying for longer this could be a nuisance. Mentioned this to reception and it's a common comment. In fact the example of the rooms before being built had a basin in with the wc. It's been open a year.
Ideal central location with everything in walking distance.

Dear obbor,

Thank you for your lovely comments and your candid feedback about our hotel.

We have a select number of rooms which have an upstairs level, however, other room types are all based on one level - check out our various room types on the website to plan a future visit!

I hope you also visited our cosy Honesty Bar, located in the corner tower of the building, overlooking the historic Korenmarkt square!

I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your visit to us and we hope that you will visit us again on another occasion.

Best regards,

We enjoyed three nights at this hotel in August 2018.

The rooms are uniquely curated, as is The Cobbler cafe, which is a great place for a cocktail and a snack.

The location is ideal, and the staff were very friendly.

The rooms are somewhat small (by North American standards) so we were happy to have booked one of the larger suites, which had a living room downstairs and a cosy bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The mattress, pillows and bedding were all very comfortable.

In the heart of it all in Ghent, with a nice warm feel! Arrived early, and our room was ready (nice), and the check-in process was good, and they walked us through the unique rooms thoroughly. The rooms are very interesting for sure, but the bathrooms, beds, pillows are first class for sure. This is the place to stay in Ghent for sure.

Love the edgy feel, the decorating is perfect! Love the bathroom in room #2, my next remodel will be that same shower!

Only issue was carting big luggage up initial floor to elevator. We had sizable luggage - 4 weeks in Europe, and the added steps kinda’ sucked.

Staff was outstanding !

Dear David T,

What a wonderful review to receive and we are delighted that you rated our hotel, the bathroom and the team so highly - it has definitely been a pleasure looking after you!

The Graslei entrance hall has an initial 10 steps before you come to the elevator and this is due to the building´s heritage status. I am very pleased you made the additional effort to come and stay with us!

Enjoy the rest of Europe - it is a wonderful continent indeed!

Warm regards,

3 nights in Ghent one of which was my wife’s birthday, so we looked for a great hotel to stay in - 1898 The Post did not disappoint:
- upgraded on arrival,
- magnificent rooms,
- exquisite furnishings with attention to detail that made you feel lost in time,
- speciality cocktails @ The Cobbler, favorite being the home made Bailies,
- campaign, Belgium beer and tea on the river terrace,
- brilliant location in the heart of historical Ghent,
- attentive and passionate staff always willing to assist and make your stay more than expected,
- honesty bar in the old tower was a treat, with famous old spirits on offer, with a view of the church at night that will not be forgotten quickly.
- a must for all discerning travelers

Dear Donovan S,

Thank you for your kind words and once again congratulations to your wife. It is wonderful to hear that you both had a great time in our hotel!

Both the Cobbler and our honesty bar are a must visit indeed and it looks like you made the most of your visit to our city and hotel.

Did you know that Zannier Hotels opened their latest hotel experience in Namibia only last month? Exceptional huts overlooking the savannah, in the very heart of an incredible animal conservancy reserve. Will this be your next visit?

Thank you for your lovely Tripadvisor post and we look forward welcoming you again very soon.

We stayed here for four nights at the end of July. It was a very comfortable stay and was everything we expected, and more. The hotel is quite new and I think they have done a really interesting conversion of a grand old building. Our room was Suite 39 which overlooked the busy square, if you are a light sleeper the trams do start quite early but you are a long way up so it is not a problem. The decoration was as we expected from pictures/reviews. It was a hot summer for Europe but our room was always cool which made it lovely to come back too. The bar served good cocktails, alcoholic and non-alcoholic with very friendly staff; we ate out for every meal, including breakfast (not included in the room rate) so can make no comment on the food. The hotel does seem to have taken a lot of trouble over small details which make it a bit different, for instance, do ask about the hotel beehives - you can see them from the first floor out on the roof! I also liked the Le Labo Santal 33 shower gel, shampoo etc so it was quite difficult to get me out of the bathroom (a favourite scent!) Every member of staff was helpful, efficient and friendly. The entrance to the hotel is on the canal side and is a little challenging to find but once we did everything was easy. I would go back if we ever return to Ghent

Dear Click_00,

Thank you for your wonderful review of our hotel. We certainly appreciate that you noticed all the detail the designer worked hard at to get right! Suite 39 is one of my favourites and I am delighted you enjoyed it!

Our award winning bar, The Cobbler, opens every day from 17.00 and the team enjoyed welcoming you in the evening! We use Save the Queen gin in some of our cocktails (as well as in our minibar) - an Urban Beekeeper initiative with 2 hives occupying the roof of 1898 The Post. Check them out online!

We are very much a hidden gem in the historic heart of Ghent - look out for our new terrace on the canal side, which makes our entrance very easy to find! Till next time!

Kind regards,
