Very unfriendly, unwelcoming staff. We expected a room in an old monumental hotel, but were located in the dependance. The bed was good, but it was extremely noisy ane the room smelled like sewage. We would not recommend this hotel.

I am very sorry to hear the accommodation was not to your standards. On our website we mention there being two buildings making up the Hotel de Flandre. Our main, authentic building and our newer, Executive building across the street. Please note we can accommodate your preferences. Just let our reception team know in the future, and we will have your preference noted in your profile.

I am also sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations, in regards to our staff not providing you with exceptional service. Gent is a beautiful city, full of many historic sights and Hotel Flanders is a quiet step away. Our room was spacious and clean. Didn’t have the breakfast because there are plenty of places near by to eat. Our stay was great!

To our surprise the hotel room was not in the hotel itself, but across the street....hmmm.Room itself was pretty good: spacey, with a fine shower en big bed. The major disappointment came after leaving, because the 6 point track of itchy bumps on my arm must be from a bed wants....hmmm.

Regarding the bite marks you encountered, after reading your review we immediately checked the room you stayed in. Together with the head of housekeeping we turned every corner but could, luckily, not find any indication of bedbugs.

We booked a room that had some issues and as soon we informed the reception the solved it exceeding the expectations.The new room was perfect, everything was working, spacious and confortable.I am very happy with choosing Hotel de Flandre and with the reception team they have.

We checked in late on Thursday for the weekend. Due to over the edge city traffic regulations (...how far can you go!) it took us five rounds through the various blocks to find the four star hotel.
Four star??? When we checked in we were told by the receptionist that we had a top floor room but unfortunately the elevator was not functioning; under construction. Not just for a few hours, but for at least months. No pre-information on the website, no roommate adjustments, no sorries on the room. Nothing. Just except it.....

From that moment on we criticized almost everything, just because we felt cheated.

Room tip: Assure yourself a room on the ground floor or the first floor, as long as the guests elevator is under construction.

I wanted to pass on my sincere thanks for taking the time and trouble to inform us about your stay in Hotel de Flandre.

At the moment we do have some troubles with the elevator in our main building, we apologise for this inconvenience. The problem is bigger than expected and we are still waiting on spare parts. We are sorry we could not fix the elevator during your stay.

We fully understand that this could cause issues for people who are less mobile. This is why we are working as hard as we can to solve this problem. If available, our guests can always ask for a room change if they do not wish to be accommodated on a high floor, unfortunately this is not always possible.

We would like to apologise again for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay at our hotel as it is certainly not the standard we would like to achieve.

Thank you, however, for writing down your experiences.
