Stayed 2 nights on a business trip and would return with my wife anytime! Friendly and helpful staff, and the whole hotel is characterised by a 'personal touch'. Highly recommended and central location, a 5-minute walk from the train station.

Positive:Friendly reception staff, nice size room, breakfast is good (and the lady cooking and serving was a delight) Negative:Small bathroom with tiny bath (I'm 6ft and I couldn't lay down and soak) it needs a refurb as it looks and feels old.

After reading so many wonderful reviews, I expected to love this hotel. Sadly, that was not the case.

Pros-
friendly staff
City center an easy, peaceful 25 min walk away
Tram card given at check in- makes up for the distance to city center as the tram is easy to use and only takes 10min
Fabulous breakfast - depending upon whom is cooking that day
Comfy bed and pillow
Large room

Cons-
No Air conditioning... I had no idea this was a possibility in 2018
Room was not very clean.- stains on bed cover, stain on mattress you could see thru the sheets, carpeting at edge of bed had so much dust from not being vacuumed it was white in color.
Gum stuck on sideline in bathroom sink
SInk cracked and stained
Housekeeping didn’t refill empty bottle of body wash
2nd day breakfast was a joke.... 1 person cooking, cleaning, taking orders for entire place....made for a 45 min wait for eggs...yikes!
Towels are old, dingy and rough

We chose this hotel because of Tripadvisor reviews and were even more impressed. I would give this 6 stars if I could.

We stayed 7 nights in Ghent and took the train to Bruges, Brussels, Waterloo and Flanders.  The location is ideal to use as a base to tour around Belgium.

Jeffery was a joy and extremely helpful.  All the staff we met were warm and friendly.  They helped us find the best connections for Sunday travel to more remote areas.  The bus/tram pass supplied was very much appreciated and can be used in Bruges and in Ghent. Jeffery offered to do our laundry and he found us medical assistance on a national holiday.  One day we needed to take a train before the normal breakfast hours and they served us a marvelous meal an hour before they open the dining room.

The breakfasts were fabulous. There were so many fruit choices.  The beans, pancakes, omelettes and fried tomato were all so tasty. The pastries and breads were gorgeous.

We had room 204 at the back which was comfortable and quiet.  It is hard to believe the hotel is so near the busy train station as we did not hear the trains or trams.  The only noise was created by room doors - the lock system requires you slam the door.  As there were only 4 rooms on our floor, this did not happen often.

We had a wonderful time and were sad to leave the Carlton and Ghent.   Thank you Jeffery and Stephen.
