We spent the weekend before Easter at the family owned Hotel Die Swaene to mark my wife's birthday and introduce our three year old to the delights of Bruges. From booking by phone through to our departure we could not have asked for better service. Axelle was particularly helpful on the telephone and given that it was a special weekend, we opted for a Junior Suite on the top floor of the main building, overlooking the canal. Our daughter had her own bed and, with the extra room, we were able to comfortably enjoy our evenings without disturbing her sleep. The space was well furnished with quirky individual items very much in keeping with the older style of the main hotel building. The bed was particularly comfortable and despite being just a five minute walk from the Burg Square, one couldn't help but notice how quiet it was even with the windows wide open.

Breakfast was a delight and absolutely worth paying for. An incredible selection of breakfast items were on offer in the beautifully appointed dining room, with the added option of eggs cooked to order. Our daughter insisted that we visit the pool at the end of each day. Despite a sharp intake of breath on entry, we quickly warmed up and spent up to an hour unwinding.

At Reception, Marie provided terrific advice on where to find the best waffles and chocolate in Bruges as well as steering us away from the main tourist trails. The voucher for a complimentary weekday tour of the city was a nice touch too. We really couldn't have asked to be better looked after and very much look forward to returning.

Just returned from Bruges and our stay at the hotel. This is a small family run Hotel which makes a refreshing change - its old with a narrow staircase to the upper floor rooms where we were and the bathroom low in height because of the sloping roof. But it's lovely and carefully furnished. The staff are excllent and the breakfast well worth the extra few euros . The lady who served us was so polite and friendly and the reception staff very good too. They are happy to provide sevice including a free walking tour and an early breakfast when we left. Close to the centre of town next to the old vismarkt. We would love to return.

Just returned last week from a lovely 4-night stay at Die Swaene. I knew nothing of the hotel before booking, and was so very happy with this choice. The hotel itself is in a historic building and the décor is in keeping with its grand history, yet comfortable and welcoming. We enjoyed our room, with its large windows which overlooked the beautiful canal and the swans that would swim by. The location couldn't have been better--an easy walk to the squares and shopping or dining. Best of all, the staff were so helpful and accommodating. Oh, and the breakfast was worth every Euro!

We plan to return soon to beautiful Brugge and Die Swaene.

Room Tip: The best rooms overlook the canal.

We used Die Swaene as our base for a weekend jaunt to Belgium for our one year anniversary. It was a bit of a rushed trip as we managed to fit in a train ride to Ghent and also left early on the Sunday to see Passchendale/the mournful city of Ypres but we still managed to fit in a surprising amount of sightseeing in Bruges despite this!

Our time in Bruges was awesome and this hotel is simply stunning. The lounges are like ball rooms. Our bedroom (I think we were upgraded) was like something I'd expect from The Ritz. Bathroom perfectly clean and really nice shower. Bedroom had a giant comfy bed and really old fashioned ornamental furniture, and it was nice of them to leave in the room a bottle of wine and a bowl of fruit. The girl on reception was so helpful and friendly, supplying us with plenty of information including where the important waffle street was! We had tall windows overlooking the canal which made it so romantic.

The only downside was that I think the pool heater was faulty as apparently it wasn't as warm as it normally would be - I paddled up to my knees and my partner went fully in but was back out within 5 minutes as it was so cold! And the sauna was under maintenance work so we couldn't warm up there. But that was the only downside -- and we didn't really spend long enough in Bruges that a cold swimming pool affected our trip because we were mostly out and about exploring. Hotel is in a really good location - only a three minute walk to the main markt square, but far enough out that there's no noise at night.

We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: try and ask for a canal-view room!

We stayed one night here the week before Christmas when we went to see the Christmas markets. It is a really nice hotel, split between two sites with the reception, rooms, breakfast room, and pool in the main entrance and the bar, terrace, parking and further rooms in a buildng at the opposite side of the canal, a couple of minutes walk from the reception.
It was a cold afternoon and the reception was warm and welcoming though the receptionist was just disappearing as we arrived. When we checked in we learned of the second building as we were walked across there too and showed to a lovely superior room with living flame gas fire which warmed us through. The beds were twin beds pushed together with separate quilts but we asked for a double quilt so we were able to snuggle up.
The room was really quirky with a separate toilet to the rest of the bathroom, a little inconvenient when you needed to wash your hands after having used the smallest room as you had to navigate two sets of doors before washing your hands. However this hotel wasn't your standard square box configuration and looked like a converted warehouse so it was nice to have an individually shaped room that has been fitted out the best they could. Windows were straight out overlooking the canal and we were able to sit by the fire and watch the pleasure boats go by as we had a drink and shared one of the apples they had left for us to enjoy.
Breakfast was in the breakfast room and the Italian-Garden-themed annex where we ate next to a Christmas tree. Food was standard continental fayre with pastries and lots of different bread, cereals and fruit. I was made a delightful plate of scrambled eggs which went lovely with the cold crispy bacon pieces and buttered toast.
The staff fell over themselves to help us all the time. We had forgotten our UK adapter and was able to borrow one and they called us a taxi as well as storing our luggage.
This hotel was about a 5 minute walk from the central Markt square, the chocolate and beer shops and boating trips but a bit of a slog from the station; I would recommend a 10Euro taxi fare from the station.
