A party of four of us travelled up from Albert on the Somme to spend a few days in the Ypres (Wipers!) Salient, we stayed in the older building of this quite rustic hotel and, after initial fears of 1970s style accommodation, we soon realised it had all the standard amenities of the 21st century! The room was spacious and comfortable and the staff very helpful.
It is located adjacent to the Hooge Crater so you know you are in the heart of the Front lines from 1914-1918, it is also only a short drive from the Menin Gate Memorial and the Passendaele Museum, so makes an ideal base for this type of visit in Belgium.

Room Tip: West wing overlooks the Hoog Crater!

We stayed because of its billing and closeness to Ypres. It was quaint but a little tired. It does have some of the remaining WWI trenches on the property. The breakfast was o.k. but nothing exceptional. The desk clerk was not very helpful and did not want to take much time to answer questions about the area.. We did find that the information center in town was very helpful, including the research center.. The Flanders Field Museum was excellent and the town overall was friendly. If I returned I would select another hotel unless you can get in the new section

Room Tip: Get a room in the new section as we could hear people talking in the room next to ours

I come here every year on a solo biking trip, touring the battlefields of Both Ieper and the Somme, and it ticks all the boxes. Fellow guests are invariably friendly, ranging from minibus tours, families and solo travellers. The hotel is ideally located tour, and the roads are superb. There is ample parking, and the owners have recently invested in an accommodation extension.

Room Tip: Book ahead.

we choose this hotel as it accepts dogs and was only 4 kms from Ypres city Centre. It is a real mix on old and new. The 'new' is the hotel block separate from main building. Rooms are spacious, clean and modern similar to a Premier Inn in UK. The 'old' is somewhat quaint. Small bar area but with nice outside terrace that overlooks site of WW1 park €1 to enter). Hotel is located next to an adventure area and as we arrived after closing cannot comment on whether hotel is affected by noise. On arrival our booking was confirmed for two rooms but single was not available. However our son was upgraded to family suite at no extra charge. We dined in Ypres so cannot comment on dinner. Breakfast was pretty basic fare. On our next visit to Ypres would try to find a more central hotel which acceps pets.

Room Tip: Request room in new external block if you want modern, functional and clean.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The owner could not have been more helpful. When she saw we had an elderly relative with us who had difficulty walking, having just come out of hospital she offered to change our rooms to groundfloor. We stayed in our room upstairs but we moved the relative into a new room and she put the heating on to warm the room.

We dined in the hotel. The menu is varied and very Belgian. Our choices were deilcious and well presented. The service was good and it was nice to sit at aa nice round table in front of the fire.

The hotel has a new block of rooms, not joined to the hotel which appear to also be nice but we loved the antiques and pictures in the old part. The building used to be the stables for a large manor house which was destroyed. The manor was on the front line in the 1914-18 war. The garden includes a large crater and there is a large old remnant of a gun.

We would return.

Nice hotel, comfortable room, easy access to Ypres centre. Stayed in the old part of the hotel, had asked for a disabled room for my mother, and got what we asked for.

The rooms were spacious and airy, and very clean.

Stayed for 2 nights, and breakfast was the typical continental style, a little busy for our taste, but the products were fine, and we all found something to eat.
