Fairly nice restaurant with decent food and a homey sort of feel. The olives and bread were pushed on us (no big deal- I am used to that in Portugal) BUT despite my decent Spanish we were served additionally a plate of charcuterie and cheese that were presented as if they were a gift yet on the bill they were 14.50 Euros (when the main dishes were only 10 Euro).
I know it was not language mixup and I resent being taken for a stool pigeon "tourist".
Beware!!!

On a rainy Saturday night, the highly recommended restaurants were full. We stumbled upon this little restaurant and found a table. No one spoke English so we began decoding the dishes with Google translate. Then the owner's? Waiter's? son came over and helped us out. We had a very enjoyable meal with house wine, starters of black pork, olives and cheese, and grilled pork. One of us had a local version of floating island and our 2 cafes-- all for under 50 euros. Many locals eating here too. Not fancy but clean and tasty!

We went to this restaurant for Dinner as it was close to our hotel, offered local Portugese cuisine & was rated #14 in Evora on TripAdvisor. If this is the 14th best then there must be some REALLY bad restaurants there! Firstly there were a couple of appetisers set down on the table in front of us. What we didn't realise was that we were going to be charged 10 Euros for them! Now that's a cover charge!
We ordered & whilst waiting there was an ominous 'Ping' from a microwave in the kitchen promptly followed by our meals arriving! I have to say this was the worst meal we had in Portugal over an 18 day stay! The meat was dry & salty, the bread was stale and the salad was inedible due to the huge amount of salt on it - who salts lettuce????!!!
In the end we left disappointed, hungry & feeling decidedly ripped off.
If you fancy some nice Portugese food, you'd best look somewhere else. Probably ANYWHERE else.

My wife and I sought out this restaurant for lunch on the final day of our stay in Evora last Wednesday because of its good recent reviews and proximity to the renowned aquaduct. We were welcomed brightly but were the only diners during our stay, which felt rather strange.

Appetizers of black pork sausage & cheese with bread were tasty enough but highly priced at E9.20 plus tax in total for two. My wife's main course of ox cheeks and fries was enjoyable but when my own dish of golden cod arrived it was very clear from the smell that the fish was off. The dish was removed and I then shared my wife's food rather than wait for anything else to be cooked.

Our customer experience went downhill rapidly from there. The bill when presented still included the fish. When challenged our host acknowledged that the dish had been cooked the previous day but maintained it was perfectly good, if not to my taste, and ought to be paid for. Seeing we clearly disagreed, he reluctantly and with ill grace made a show of revising the existing bill by hand at the table rather than simply producing a revised one at the till. Having paid the reduced bill we left with no apology for the food and a sarcastic 'see you later' remark as a farewell.

In a week's stay in the area this was our only poor restaurant experience. Food quality and service in other establishments were both generally good to excellent. With plenty of other good restaurants to choose from, our strong advice would be to go elsewhere.

Mondays are not always the greatest day to visit a restaurant but this one was an exception. Located in a side street it is a mother and son operation, mother kitchen preparing and cooking fine traditional regional food and son doing the floor work and tending bar. We started with a glass of Spanish Cava each, but everything else was Portuguese. Cheese, Ham and Pork Sausage, a salad to share, Roast Cod and meltingly good Pig's Cheeks followed by a selection of homemade Alentejo desserts to share. The wine recommended by the waiter was excellent, a Casa de Sabicos Reserva 2013. A small, intimate restaurant, not to be hurried but savoured and enjoyed.
