Came here on the recommendation of our hotel. From the minute we walked in until we left we were treated like old friends. Owner, George and his staff are friendly and attentive. Service is well pace and not rushed. George explains the menu, which is on a chalkboard. They serve farm to table style with everything being fresh. Given a basket of fresh bread, local olive oil, local cheese and olives. An “amuse bouche” of a vegetable soup in a shot glass, very tasty. We shared an appetizer of sauteed vegetables which was served with fresh spices. Main meals consisted of lamb for my husband and I opted for the goat, both very tender and very tasty. Served with four different purees ranging from beet with strawberries to onion, vegetable and squash purees. A meal to remember and owner and staff that went beyond the norm. Would highly recommend. We had reservations.

George started our dining experience by explaining that he offers a 'farm to table experience - no rice, no french fries'. Sign us up! We selected our dinner off of an enormous cardboard menu that he brought around to each table and reviewed individually. The food was fantastic, the service excellent, and the ambience casual and friendly. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Evora - if you pick one restaurant in Evora, make it Momentos!

Handily the best food I had in Portugal
And the staff was great
And the desserts were better
This Farm to Table restaurant is a blast from the moment they start showing you what is on the menu, by displaying samples on a platter.
They show you the fresh fish or meat they are prepared to cook
The owner is a character.

My husband and I decided to try Momentos on a bit of a whim, however it was one of the recommended restaurants by our hotel. Owner/chef Jorge masters both front and back of house in his intimate restaurant blending a little of the traditional with an interesting and artful aesthetic. He presents his daily offerings on a black board - pay attention - he flows through quickly and there are several options. An amuse bouche of watercress soup heralded the beginning of our delightful dinner. We took up the offer of bread, olives and cheese - the olive oil accompanying the bread was grassy and sumptuous. Jorge fuses fresh, simple market ingredients and gives Portuguese food a bit of modern flare but in an authentic and tasty way. Prawns with a strawberry compote were surprisingly effective, and the black pork with grilled pear and purées of chick peas, sweet potato and pumpkin was sublime. Jorge is a charming polyglot, and moved between his guests speaking Portuguese, German, French, and English with ease. His service staff were friendly and attentive. Excellent food and great wines - highly recommend!
