“An ok but not brilliant place.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2011

I decided to stay here based on all of the really good reviews on here but for me the room and the resort as a whole was at best average. I went in winter when it was pretty quiet and mainly used by older people.

Check in was fairly straightforward and then a young lad took my case to the studio apartment, there was a lot of furniture in the studio and with the bed down there was hardly any room in there to move about. Why do i need two comfy chairs, two kitchen chairs and two stools in a small studio apartment? I also had a kitchen table, a coffee table, a table used as a TV stand and another table with a small lamp on it? I think if they removed some of the clutter the room would seem much bigger and be more user friendly. The fold down bed was not the most comfy bed i had ever slept on and due to its design it is quite low to the floor

The 'balcony area' also forms the way into the apartment, as it was a ground floor apartment i had lots of people walking past so not exactly private. The walls were very thin and i could here through to the rooms on both sides and also people walking upstairs above me.

The kitchen area was small but well equipped with lots of utensils, pans and cutlery, a full size fridge freezer was quite useful but again maybe overlarge for a small apartment, there was a combo microwave oven/grill but there were no instructions and i couldnt work out how to get the grill part of it working.

Location wise its nice and close to the oura beach but its ten minutes up hill walk to the bottom of the strip and at least 45 minutes walk to the old town area. Local buses and the tourist train thing go past the complex at the top of the hill.

The bar was ok but not exactly busy and the bits of entertainment i saw was at best pub singer standard. There is a mini-market on site but it was quite pricey compared to the proper supermarkets. I didnt use the swimming pool as it was freezing cold (not heated)

The best thing for me was the on site sauna and jacuzzi's. Was lovely to have a session in the sauna at the end of the day then hop into the hot tub and watch the sun go down.

Just returned from a week at the CPO as they call it.I paid £81 per person for flights from stanstead, transfers and accomodation.purchased package through On the beach .com to say i was chuffed would be an understatement!.....room was dated but clean and functional, staff were very efficient and the only polite people we found in portugal. The CPO is not the ritz but a large well run hotel complex in fantastic gardens.would go back tomorrow.

Having been coming to CPO on a regular basis for over 15 years. Have mainly stayed at this timeshare resort. The location is fantastic just beside the beach. The resort is very large has lovely gardens and is very well kept. Rooms vary in size and this time we stayed in a large 2 bed 2 bathroom appartment.

The appartment was clean, but the furnishings are becoming tired and old fashioned. Some appartments seem to have been modernished to a very high standard, others still sport blankets and sheets, old fashioned TV's etc.

Did not use any of the facilities at the resort, and we did not eat in the resort as there is amply restaurants nearby offering better quality food and value.
Will be going back in April, hopefully to a more modern appartment.

Room Tip: Take an upgraded room if possible it is worth paying the extra

i have just returned today from this wonderful hotel, and i wish i was still there. the weather was scorching hot! if your like me and you have read lots of reviews, you will have seen cockroaches mentioned over and over again in albufeira and surrounding areas. yes i encountered 4, 2 inside and 2 outside, but they really are not everywhere and not scary, i actually thought they were cute things, but then i have watched the movie called Joe's Apartment lol. i chased them out with a broom and they disappeared down the drain. leave your terrace lights on at night, they dont like light, you wont have much trouble with them, our apartment was a studio, well equiped and very very clean, everything is well off the floor and the floors are very light coloured so nothing will escape your notice! we had a huge terraced balcony with patio set and 2 sun loungers, we were overlooking the pool, which is lovely. so please please dont be put off going to this fabulous town and exceptional hotel. it is so friendly, lots of activities and fabulous location. set in beatiful gardens is the ocean bar and sauna, and jacuzzis, all over looking the beach. its close to everything you could possibly need for your leisure. the atlantic ocean is breathtaking as is the scenery. a swim in the atlantic is a must, the water is warm and the waves can get pretty big, its awesome! there are small bays to the left of the hotel, which have restaraunts on the beach. walk through the gardens and turn left before going down the steps, around the back of the hotel its self, you will find them, they are hidden until you reach the spot. to the right is the main Oura beach which has several restaurants, there is also a small shopping complex by the beach at the side of one of the restaurants.and a beach shop. the old town is very pretty and has so many shops you will be mesmerised, its a must to visit, it is around 4 euros by taxi to get there, we went twice.
we only had breakfast at the hotel which was a buffet with everything you could want. we ate out every night at several different restaurants, we found Mangelos the best value for money and the food simply divine, you must give it a try, it is situated on the main road out side the hotel which also leads to the strip, we found the restaurants on the strip expensive, with the exception of the chinese restaurant which is at the start of the strip, slightly tucked away at the back, give that a try too. if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at panjay22gmail,com i will be more than happy to help you..

A party of 4 adults, all family members, stayed here for 6 nights at the end of June. First impressions are of the beautifully kept gardens and landscaped areas. However this proved to be all a cover for what lay behind the hotels room doors.

We arrived to check in and the initial odd thing that struck me is they wanted to take a photocopy of my credit card!. Most hotels will swipe and preauthorise your card for the duration of your stay but not here. I objected but they insisted even after I outlined the potential for fraud with a copy of my card there for any staff to see. Thye said they would give me the copy back when I checked out.

Our next surprise was our room or more specifivally the fact that our room was located in a separte block down the street and up a steep hill. Off we went with the bell boy and our luggage as he joked " only 4 more miles to go to your room." We arrived at our block, sunset view or something similar it was called. Down a small alley and round the corner. The exterior paint was peeling off the wall, despite 4 guests there were 2 sunloungers on the porch. The bell boy dropped our bags and wished us well. As we looked around we found a couple of other guests, 2 large cockroaches which we quickly dealt with. The bathroom was musky and mould was around the faded bath and tiles. The bath itself was so worn it would not be possible to hygenically clean it and needless to say it was not used during our stay. There was a second smaller bathroom with a shower that a small child would find hard to manoverue in. Water everywhere each time it was used.

The kitchen was adequate with 2 hobs and a micrwave. No oven. Overall the place felt dirty with sticky floor tiles in the kitchen and a generally worn look throughout.

The biggest problem was the lack of airconditioning, which a number of other reviewers have mentioned.. Night times were extremely uncomfortable with a stench of stale air. This is 2011 and airconditioning should not be considered a luxury. We were provided with a couple of noisy fans one of which did not work .

During the inital part of the holiday days by the pool were fine. However I had thought it was a legal obligation to provide a lifeguard. But by Thirsday and into the weekend the place becomes a favourite of stag and hen partys. Loud beer drinking groups who took over the place with a noticeable increase in hotel security.

Finally i will must mention Jacs, the on site restaurant. Service was fine but the food on the night we ate there was not good. A chicken curry had chicken pieces which were raw in the middle and a spagetti bolognise had a lump of grizzle that nearly made me sick.

This place appears to be a popluar spot. It could be that it is a timeshare establishment and that many who purchased have no option but to return. They did ring and offer me a tour but I politely declined. With the current economic climate people are looking for reasonably priced holidays but please beware this place scrapes the bottom of the barrell. NEVER AGAIN!

Me and my girlfriend visited CPO in July 2010, at the time we were 18 and 19 years old.
When we first booked the hotel, we were told that we were going to be allocated one of two hotels on the site. On arrival we were lucky enough to be allocated in CPO, not only that we have a lovely sea view.
The room was excellent, we booked a studio which was plenty big enough for two people! It was very clean and the bathroom was especially nice. The beds consisted of a pre-made one and a second bed that had to be pulled out and made your self, which to be honest wasn't a problem as they were very comfortable.
The room did not have air conditioning which was a little uncomfortable at times but, there were two fans in the room which kept us cool.

The hotel reception was a little dated, but we didn't mind this as we didn't spend much time in there at all!
The pool was lovely, lots of sunbeds and there are large grassy areas all around the pool which you can sunbath on too! The pool bar was great, really well prices and the food was nice.
There is also a small shop around the pool, which served ice creams, snacks, as well as UK newspapers etc. The lady who ran the shop was lovely and really helpful if you had any issues!

If you want a place to eat near the hotel, you have to try The beach cafe! which is on the beach, to the left front of CPO! You have to walk down a ramp to get to it. I would seriously recommend you try this, all the staff are great, the food is excellent and the setting, even better! We ended up sending most nights here watching the sun go down!
Another place to try for breakfast is Mangello's, the breakfasts are about 3 euros for a full English and they are lovely! It is situated at the top of the hill, if you were to walk away from the sea with the pool on you right.

The hotel is perfectly situated, close to the beach and close enough the the main strip to walk to, but not close enough so that you can hear the noise!
Its a great hotel and we would defiantly visit here again!

The apartments are very dated with uncomfortable furniture and a hard bed but the worst thing is that there is no air conditioning and this makes it impossible to sleep at night as it is too hot! Leaving the windows and patio door open means you get eaten alive by bugs. The resort is in a good location near the beach and has a good pool but as I didn't get much sleep and couldn't relax I won't be going back.
