“Great Location...”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

We spent 3 days at Hotel Vila Gale... Totally relaxing and laid back. The location is amazing. it is a 5 minute walk to the Gale beach, which almost means you never want to leave the area. The staff was extremely helpful, did everything with a smile and always were willing to go out of their way. One thing we noted was that often the front desk didn't know of restaurants beyond the town of Gale, and there wasn't a lot in the area. The rooms felt a bit dated and the corridors had a bit of a damp smell, but that was all very minor relative to the positives. Great place to totally relax.

A wonderful hotel in a quiet location near to a fantastic beach and only a 10 euro taxi ride to Albufeira. We thought this hotel was fantastic with a lovely pool area where there were always plenty of loungers, staff were always helpful and all requests were carried out with a smile. we were a party of 3 couples and felt we were almost in a private villa but with the advantages of a hotel. We thought the breakfasts were good and although fried eggs and toast did not appear to be on offer you only had to ask and they were freshly prepared for us. We did not eat in the restaurant for dinner as we felt that are there many other good restaurants nearby and in Albufeira. Would we go again? most certainly

Room Tip: Premier rooms all face the pool and gardens and we thought well worth the extra cost

Just returned from seven nights at this hotel, booked after reading other holidaymakers' reports on Trip Advisor.
The reception for my wife and I was superb. One very pleasant young lady went through all the necessary admin procedures, while another presented us with cold lemon tea and damp towels to refresh us after our journey.
We'd arrived with another couple on the same minibus and two other members of staff dealt with them simultaneously. A sign of good things to come.
The buffet breakfasts and evening meals are all served in the restaurant, where the waiting staff showed the same attention to detail as their reception colleagues.
Nothing was too much trouble and most spoke enough English to be able to help with any enquiry.
The buffet breakfast itself was magnificent. A choice of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, numerous types of cheese, cold meats, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, mini sausages, various breads, rolls, croissants etc etc etc.....Fresh fruit juice, tea and coffee, PLUS espumante fizzy wine to drink(NOTE: If you like your English tea, either take some tea bags with you, or ask for two teabags in your teapot !!).
A previous reviewer mentioned cold scrambled eggs, but in our experience if something wasn't quite right, you mentioned it to a member of staff and it was rectified. The choice varied from day to day on certain items but, if you asked they simply brought you what you wanted.
The room was large and well appointed, although I was surprised to find that there were no tea or coffee making facilities. As a previous reviewer has said, the bed was a trifle firm and, not having it at home, the noise from the air conditioning took a bit of getting used to. But it wasn't overpowering.
The pool was lovely and clean, if a bit on the cold side ! But with temperatures in the low 30's while we were there, that became a bonus.
Another reviewer has mentioned the lack of music at the poolside as a negative, but everyone we spoke to, like us thought that was a big PLUS (I still have recurring nightmares of Shaggy pumping out 'Mr. Boombastic' relentlessly at a hotel pool in Turkey many years ago !).
Evening meals at the hotel are high class too. We ate there once during our stay and used the local beachside restaurants for the remainder of our time there.
Although one travel rep. suggested that the nearest restaurant (the middle of the three on the beach, called something like Gaiao ??)) wasn't to be patronised, we suspect that this was due to some personal issues. We had two evening meals there with another couple who also visited during the day and we all found the menu to be varied and good value. The food was always delicious and served with humour and friendliness by the waiters.
It was strange to be in a hotel surrounded by holiday villas and several vacant building sites. These villas, the supermarket nearby and aforementioned restaurants are all that comprises the location of Gale.
There is no 'town centre' or 'main street' that you can walk along with bars, shops etc (no chemist or Post Office for example. Although the hotel does provide a three-times-daily minibus service into Albufeira). So if you're looking for a complete, really getaway type holiday, this is the place for you.
However, if you want a little more (but less than the Southend/Margate environment that is Albufeira ), you might feel a little isolated.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay at the Vila Gale Praia, made so by the hotel staff, nice room and great pool. We would recommend it to couples looking for a real 'getaway break'. Probably too quiet for families with small, or teenage children.
Finally, if you do book and are given a room on the third floor, please keep up the tradition of repositioning/dressing up/making up the small china bust of Chairman Mao on the table opposite the lift !!! (Strange choice of ornament for a Portugese hotel, but seeing the daily changes provided some lighthearted gentle amusement during our stay.)

Room Tip: Try to book a room on any floor overlooking the pool. Those on the other side just look out over the...

We have just returned from our second trip to the hotel, having spent a wonderful week there last year.So we thought we would have ten days this year.We booked the day after returning home a year ago, and requested the same room. This we were told on arrival, we couldn't have as the hotel was full! Thankfully we were still on the top floor with a pool view. Actually better than the one we had requested. To watch the sun setting over the sea there, is amazing. The balcony has two chairs and a small table, with sufficienct room to sit and have a few drinks. We arrived at the hotel at about 9.30am, after travelling since 3am. We asked the waiter if we could go down to the restaurent where breakfast was still taking place, for a welcome cup of coffee. It was like we had asked for the earth. We got told we would have to wait while he asked the waiter in charge. We were eventually 'allowed' a coffee. We found the staffs attitude very rushed and stressed this time, not so friendly as last year. The cleaners do a marvellous job in keeping the hotel clean, working all hours.I agree with the reviews about the breakfast being cold. twice I mentioned it to the staff, in the end I just asked for toast. Not something I would expect from a 4star hotel. We did get what we went there for, nice hot weather and total relaxation around the pool.Perhaps there is some truth 'never the same second time around'

Room Tip: Top floor, pool view rooms. Beautiful views of the sunset and sea

We booked this Hotel with 4 days to go & were expecting to have an ok time!. However......the service received was superb from all staff - apart from the Spa!
The Hotel is literally 2 mins walk from the beautiful beach - sandy & miles to walk along.
The service at check in was fantastic, very professional and rooms very modern, comfortable & clean. The beds were quite hard, but this is a minor grumble! The only "complaint" about the room was the shower screen as it leaked acres of water all over the floor, which is shiny tiles & therefore a little dicey!!!
The food in the restaurant was lovely.
This Hotel is highly recommended for a total get away as there's not alot around going on! There are only 40 ish rooms and for us, that was perfect as it meant quiet, chill & not alot of stuff going on at the pool during the day......for the first time in ages we literally read books & slept in the sun - perfect!!!!

We have just returned from a very pleasant 10 day break in this lovely hotel. It is exactly as described - pool area is a wonderful haven, quiet and spacious. The pool itself is clean, well maintained and a joy to swim in.

Breakfast is served indoors which I thought was a pity, sitting out at the pool area would have been lovely - the weather in the morning was always suitable.... The buffet itself was good though, everything you would need but perhaps a bit samey. Some more fresh fruit would have been nice, and some seeds and nuts perhaps to add to the youghurt. Pastries, breads and cakes were delish, but coffee a bit hit and miss, the tea pretty horrid.

Our room (NOT overlooking pool) was very comfortable, roomy, spotless and nicely furnished. I know lots of reviewers have said the extra cost of a pool view room was well worth it but I preferred the privacy of overlooking the villas at the back of the hotel.

Dinner varied. We didn't eat there every night but I'd say the first meal - roastbif salad followed by sea bream - was the best, but maybe that was the excitement of just arriving and settling in to our new surroundings. We ate there 4 out of the 10 mights, it was generally enjoyable but not stunning..

The staff, with the exception perhaps of one irritiating waiter, was great, as others have said they wanted you to have a good time. they were helpful and courteuous.

We didn't use the spa but had a good look round, it was stunning. Turkish bath, sauna, the biggest jacuzzi I have ever seen, gym, yoga room all bathed in soft light, flower petals liberally scattered, candles and incense perfuming the air, oozing luxury..

Downsides? Well I think someone else has already covered them, the lack of soft fluffy towels in the bathroom; some lapses in concentration, for example after the rain shower the glass tables at the pool would have benefitted from a wipe over. And mattresses for the sun beds would also have been a good touch. Parking isn't easy, the hotel is very near the Vila Gale beach and the whole road gets seriously parked up. there are spaces outside the hotel but precious little chance or a guest getting one, we parked round the back in the residential area mostly but that didn't bother us.

So onto the locality...

There is a dearth of other eateries around about, we went to Sao Domingos twice (will review elsewhere) on the recomenndation of reception - walked there and back, 20 mins each way and we ate too at the local beach restaurant, it was very good although pricey. There is a supermarket, Apolonnia, handy, stocked most things. The resort is well placed for lots of lovely beacjes, Coelha and Arrifes were our favourites but there are many others. And you are well placed for all points west, Portimao surprised us, much nicer than we we had expected. We didn;t get to Lagos, hire car was disappointing - no abysmal, AIR AUTOS - don't use them whatever you do, our car broke down on the way back to the airport, (could have written the script for that...) the assistance people claimed they called a taxi but no taxi arrived, luckily the breakdown recovery cavalry took us to Faro.

So back to the hotel, all in all - very good, four star is about right I'd say!! For me personally it offers added enjoyment because it is smallish...40 rooms. Can't stand those 360 roomed tower blocks..

And we would go back but for fewer nights, there are too many other nice places ot stay to restrict yourself to one hotel..

Room Tip: Don't bother going for pool view, the people at the pool view you.....

My wife and i recently stayed in this hotel and i must say the hotel was lovely, the pool area was nice but no one talked, even to teach other, there was no background music and zero atmosphere,i thought i arrived at a funeral

maybe if you like queitness, then this is for you,not for us!

Breakfast was like a road accident, numerous waiters and waitresses and each running around getting this and that,i agree with another poster, the food was cold and not good enough....if we wanted fried eggs,we had to ask,if we wanted tea,we had to ask

you had to pour your own coffee......
Management...this is a 4 star hotel,not a 1 star,you need to improve service and breakfast

i found the room to be comfortable but not anything special, the balconies were on top fo each other with zero privacy, they obviously packed everything as close together as possible

Room Service:
I got this on many occasions, one day i got a steak sandwich with fries,it came with fries so cold, they were not even heated up,besides that,no presentation on the plate and everything just thrown together,i would fire the person who prepared the food if i was the manager
again, not good enough for a 4 star,on top fo this,it came with no salt/pepper,no sauces, whata disaster,i had to ring down a few times before i could actually start to eat

i have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels but this isnt one, when you stay in a 4 star and pay top money, there should be no problems

for the area where the hotel is,it is really nice and 3 bars.restaurants down the road, getting taxis to old town and the strip is around 10 euro

supermarket a 10 min walk away

would i stay here again:
No,its overrated,too queit,average breakfast,small rooms,tiny balconies too close to each other

on the plus, the staff at reception are very nice and are best thing that the hotel has
