Very friendly and helpful Staff, the cleanliness throughout hotel is excellent. Wi-Fi and internet booths are available, three floors with lifts, the double beds are not two single beds and are at least queen size bed, but the matress is very firm. The breakfast room is on the top floor, there is no restaurant in this hotel. The hotel has a swimming pool and a large car park. There is no kettle in bedrooms although tea coffee sandwiches and tosties are available in bar throughout the day. There are a number of Restaurants and a beauty/hair salon beside hotel, nice little bar with pool table next door to hotel. It is a 5 min walk into Olhos de Agua and a 15 min walk to beach in Olhos de Agua. Walking distance to New Town Albufeira approx 30 mins, taxi approx €6, Old Town approx €10-12 (long walk). Vilamoura Marina would take 40-50 mins walking along beach and taxi is approx €15-€20. Faro airport taxi is approx €35 and 40 mins journey time.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are large but do not have a balcony, some rooms do not have a bath and are shower only...

We found this hotel on Late Bookings and because the price was so low - £25 a night including a continental breakfast - we weren't expecting much... By the way that was £25 a night for the 2 of us, not each.....We went on the 26th March for 5 nights.
We looked at it on Trip advisor just to make sure we were not going to some dive on the outskirts of nowhere, and were amazed to see that it was the number 2 hotel of 160 in Albufeira. when we got there we found out why.....
It is a wonderful little place, ideally situated, superbly clean, and the staff will do anything for you.
The Bar area was great, with a Grand Piano in the middle, nice comfortable seating, and a good selection of drinks...What amazed us even more was that the price of the drinks were in line with the room rate....Stupidly cheap..... £1.50 for a pint of local, but very good beer, and the same for a large glass of local, but again very good wine.
There are a couple of local cafe / bars next to the hotel that were great and the prices were even cheaper than the hotel....Its a 10 min walk to the beach, down a sloping road, lined with bars and restaurants and gift shops. Prices here were double or triple that of the hotel and its local bars. If you turn right from the hotel its a 30 min walk into Albufeira, where a much larger array of bars and nightlife exits if thats your thing.
So all in all a great place to stay and a little gem of a 3 star hotel..Definitely going back....

Room Tip: Don't ask for an end room....they are the only ones without a bath, they just have a shower.

Stayed on front of hotel - traffic noise non-existant.

Staff excellent, cleanliness excellent, couldn't do enough for us. We arrived late and Marcelo made us some toasties, which was a superb welcoming touch! Thank you so much.

He also knew exactly who I was as soon as we arrived (and I have never stayed here before - neither do we stand out particularly!

The only minor let downs are the pool being so small, I can imagine that it is a problem in high season, but with beaches like the Algarve has - why would you sit aound the pool anyway???

This hotel is no good if all you want Is chips with everything, karaoke and sky movies. No good for lazy people who want to fall in and out of the pub and onto the beach. Thankfully!

A little gem - the bar prices in other reviews are not to be believed as some people clearly can't add up. The beer Is ice cold and large (super bok - local lager, very good is approximately £2). A Tia-Maria an coke costs you about the same! Good value for a hotel bar.

Rooms are of a high standard and yes, there are some tired looking areas (if you get down on your hands and knees with a magnifying glass!).

Top-tip: travel by taxi - it's cheaper and more reliable than the bus! Ask reception to call you a cab -it'll be there within 5-10 mins as there's always a taxi around the area in albufeira.

Don't be put off by cheap pricing - this place is a bargain. I've stayed in better, but not for the money!

We visited velamar hotel in february this year and thouroughly enjoyed it .
Its very peaceful area no husstle an bustle and i imagine its the same in the summer too . Saying that if you do want it busier albufera is next door .
We love beaches and in this area they are amazing . We spent full days down on Maria Luisa and everyday we had the sunshine approx 20degrees + .
We booked our hotel on the internet and looked at reviews on trip advisor, we saw no negative comments about Velamar.
We also booked our Airport transfer because of trip advisor suggestions , we were warned against shuttles so we used a private company called yellowfish transfers com ,we got a lovely bottle of wine from them , cheap, very punctual and 2 nice drivers..
We travelled from manchester using Monarch airlines they were also very punctual with a friendly efficient crew ..

Stayed there with my girlfriend last October. We found the staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. The hotel was very clean, and I have no complaints with the stay. The only negatives I would say are that its a little bit out of the way, and if you are young like us then nightlife is a fair distance away. The breakfast is nice and refreshing, but being a fat lad I'd prefer something hot or a bit more choice. The pool is quite small, and doesn't catch the sun till late on because its set behind the hotel!

All in all, a very nice stay, we will come back

I definitely agree with all of the positive reviews here. I'm so glad to have found this place! I decided to keep low expectations as we didn't pay much at all for our double room (two friends travelling), and so I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. It's not the Four Seasons, but the rooms and decor throughout the building are modern and very clean. The staff were nice enough in general (some friendlier than others, but that's to be expected), and check in and check out were quick and easy. The included breakfast was fantastic - lots of options (no hot meals, but we didn't mind) - fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, coffee, toast and croissants, all great quality. And the breakfast room is lovely and bright and very clean. I don't really have anything negative to say! The only trouble we had was getting there on the city bus from faro - the stops weren't announced so we got off at the first road sign we saw that said "olhos de agua" and ended up walking for at least half an hour. If you're taking that bus maybe ask the driver to tell you when to get off, or wait about 5-7 minutes after you've seen that road sign. The hotel is actually on the western edge of the town.

The weather was great for February - nice and hot during the day as long as you're in the sun. Cool at night of course. The pool wasn't warm enough to swim in unfortunately but it did look lovely. We tried to follow some advice of the other posters here but I think just ended up on the main beach which was good enough for us! We also ate at Adega du Ze, which you can find if you turn right outside of the hotel, and although it wouldn't win any awards for atmosphere, the price was incredible! Bread, main dish, dessert, coffee, and half a bottle of wine for 7.50 euros. All very tasty too. We also shopped a bit at a lovely store on the way to the restaurant that had lots of nice and low-priced linens.

I would definitely go back to Hotel Valemar and absolutely would recommend it to anyone. I'd even consider going back to the Algarve just to stay there - maybe in the warmer months.

Room Tip: We followed other poster's advice and asked for a room with a balcony facing the back on the fir...
