Margarite and Miquel were our hosts for an amazing day at the Mercado de Faro followed by a cooking class on cataplana cooking. They were informative, friendly and offered a historical tutorial on cataplana cooking. The food was absolutely delicious. The meal was plenty and complete with a starter and dessert. I would highly recommend taking advantage of their expertise. A wonderful day and a great memory.
Was in Faro for the evening looking for a nice spot for dinner and this place just begged us to sit down, relax and enjoy. Expansive outdoor seating with many tables to choose from. We went around 7 so it was barely crowded, but when we left and 9 the tables were filling up.
We were a party of six and enjoyed a number of tapas and dishes. We had the Portuguese stews - Cataplanas - served in a beautiful round pot with lid. One was pork cheeks which was outstanding. The flavors all melded together making the sum far greater than the parts. My sister and I split the razor clams which were so fresh and tasty - simple dish that was outstanding. We also had some prawns for the table which again were delicious.
This was one of the few places we ordered desserts and were so glad that we did. Everything was fresh and appeared to have been prepared that day, not brought in or bought from a large store. The Dom Rodrigo is a must try along with the Honey Cake. Unfortunately we were so filled from dinner we could not try more.
I peaked into the main building and dining room and it was lovely. There was a little shop in there so you could pick up a few local goodies for those foodies out there.
If you are in Faro and hungry, go directly to this place!
