Loulé's Saturday market is a great way to experience the colour and variety of Portugal's produce. From fresh fruit and vegetables brought in by local farmers to the amazing variety of fresh and reasonably prices fresh fish, from traditional bread to fig-based sweet treats, from cork hats and belts to decorated pottery, from vintage port to dried sausage, it is all there to be enjoyed.
There is a real 'buzz' about the place with the outdoor and indoor markets vying to attract attention. There are plenty of cafés in or near the market to sit and watch the crowds go by. There also colourful street full of interesting shops should you tire of the market.
I would be surprised if any visitor doesn't leave without some small memento of their trip.

This is a local market in the middle of loule
It's free to get in and there are numerous bargains to get - we find the local wines and oils good value
It's clean and easy to walk around however it can get very busy on Saturdays

The market is huge and bustling with vendors inside and out on Saturdays. Everything from fish-meat-cheese-fruits-veggies-pastry. Then there are the handcraft stalls and linens, etc. A fun, crazy, crowded place and absolutely worth the drive. We parked on the street, about 5 blocks from the market without a problem. Prices are excellent, and everything is SO fresh. The building is interesting architecturally as well. We did go back to the market on Monday for fish as we were staying only 15 minutes from there, but only 2 fish stalls were open, and a few green stalls along with the breads, quite a different experience. The place is just crazy alive on Saturday morning, buy everything!

I could not pass by without leaving a note! It is one of mine favorite time spendings in Saturday morning. One can shop local staff, fresh food supplies, take a nice expresso with fresh bakery, etc. Rustic, tipical portuguese atmosphere.
Prices are lower then in supermarkets.
Strongly recomend it!

A beautiful market in an unusual neo Arabic style built during the Art Noveau period. Great stalls inside and friendly stall holders. Great for buying a picnic! Try the wide range of bread rolls on offer.
