We booked this hotel well in advance of our stay, knowing it is small, and very popular. The location couldn't be better. Just a few blocks from the harbor, restaurants, main square and market. It's an old-fashioned hotel in the best European sense. Low-key, extremely clean, polished wooden and stone floors. The staff is most courteous and very helpful, and speak English. They summoned our taxis, booked an island tour for us, and kept our luggage during an early arrival and late checkout. Breakfast is included, and while not especially varied, there was always something tasty to start the day. We asked for a quiet room and were placed towards the rear of the building with a view out over the rooftops and towards the church across the street. The street is a busy thoroughfare during the daytime, but was quiet at night, even with our windows open. Beds (twin) were comfortable, bathroom modern & clean, lighting very adequate. We booked directly from the U.S. and paid 50% in advance and the balance a week or so before arrival. Better arrangements might be made through an on-line booking agent. The price was about the same either way. We'll stay here again when we visit Ponta Delgada.More
