The spa is one of the nicest I've ever experienced.
The rooms are enormous, with plenty living space where you can spend time reading, getting ready or whatever takes your fancy. While from the outside, this hotel does look rather like a large office building, the benefit of this is the super spacious interior and rooms.
The food is delicious and although a bit pricey, is more competitive than other hotels of the same category.
We didn't get to enjoy any golfing whilst there but if you are into Golf, this is most definitely the place to be.
The location is quite isolated, and a car will be needed, however the benefit of this is that you are away from the hustle and bustle, with deserted (yet rocky and windy!) beaches near by. Perfectly located between Cascais and Sintra and a liesurely drive from Lisbon.

I stayed here for 6 days on business, the company had exclusive use of the hotel and we were mostly impressed. Visually it looks like a corporate HQ and inside its huge lobby and lounge areas are flooded with light. There are wonderful views of the sea and its set into a beautiful area of sand dunes.
The public areas are all open plan and this includes the bar and the restaurant so it wont appeal to everyone as it can lack atmosphere. The meeting rooms are very minimalistic and cold almost like mini warehouses.

However the bedrooms are excellent, great beds (poor pillows) and plenty of space, all with privates terraces. The glass cubicle shower rooms and en suite wont be appreciated by all.
The food is generally of a very high standard indeed but the service can be a little slow. Staff are very polite and pleasant.

I stayed at the Oitavos as part of a 3-day company conference. We had exclusive use of the hotel for the entire duration, and hence benefitted from a high level of service and attention from its friendly staff. The hotel is very modern and sleek in its design and boasts wonderful views of the ocean, helped by the generous use of glass throughout the building.

My biggest surprise was no doubt the size of the room - even the lowest category is big enough to fit a family and has a balcony overlooking the ocean. The room had an open plan layout, with the sleeping and lounge areas separated from the shower and cloakroom by a wall in the middle of the room. The shower and toilet have glass doors. Hence this set-up would only befit a single person, a couple or close friends. I would be remiss not to mention the loo's high-tech, state-of-the art WC, which has a built-in shower and dryer! It bowled me over and provided for amusing discussion at the dinner table. I felt utterly spoiled having the whole place to myself.

The generous use of space and open layout provides a wonderful sense of tranquility and serenity, which pervades throughout the hotel. The bar and restaurant are bright and airy offering a good selection of fresh produce and local delicacies. The spa and pool areas, all with glass windows, provide unspoiled views of the dunes and the ocean. The only exception was the gym, which was accessed via a door from the spa and was rather small, dark (curtains hindering outside view) and quite enclosed. My company organised a team building exercise which included the choice of cycling or running along the coast or playing golf. I opted to join the cycling team and thoroughly benefitted from the scenic coastal views.

The Oitavos suited the purpose of this particular business trip, which was to provide a relaxing atmosphere for colleagues travelling from around the world to network and discuss future plans. However, given its rather remote location from the airport (a taxi ride costs Euro 60) and limited access to local amenities, I would consider the Oitavos best suited for a long weekend getaway or in combination with visits to other parts of the coast if going on a private trip.

Cascais is a popular enough destination and there are more than enough luxury hotels to choose from. I have stayed in a good one several years back, but now I don't remember, so let me tell you about The Oitavos, which I do remember, as it was just this December. Draw up to the circular porch of the hotel and you realise the architecture of this place is kind of different from what you have seen. It is spacious and the areas around the reception are beautiful and minimal. Beyond is the restaurant which looks out on the golf course and the beach and the sunshine filters through. The food is good too, though veggies may find not much choice.

The lift to my floor opened up to the largest lift landing area I have ever seen - it is vast and empty. The room is no less! It uses different kind of colors and textures all over. And it's all kind of... open. The idea perhaps is to make you feel as if you have lots of air and space which has successfully been conveyed, for sure.

The work area is a large table surface with a huge tv facing the sofa set. And behind it is the bathroom. Actually there is no bathroom as such, but frosted glass cubicles for the potty and the shower. Two large wash basins are now de rigeur of course and the bathtub opens up to the glass wall that allows you a view of the golf course and the beach while you soak in. Awesome. The balcony is also large and offers you a view of the Atlantic.

Complaints? Well what's the use of having two fancy wash basins when they are just smart looking but not functional. These square ones are too shallow, letting the water splash. Another problem I had was with the pillows - they were stuffed with air.

The Oitavos is a modern, stark hotel - but it's kind of new-gen to an old-fashioned me...

Room Tip: All rooms give you a view of the Atlantic...

Excellent room, modern and interesting design. Very comfortable bed. Large balcony with lovely view over the golf course.
Great breakfast buffet: the fresh fruit was amazing. All staff is very professional and well informed about things happening in the hotel (Audi was 're-decorating' the hotel to launch their new A4). We stayed 3 nights with 2 rounds of golf included. Good golf course with incredible (sea) views.

Room Tip: Rooms with uneven numbers have the sun in the morning, with sea view and practice range + holes 1-4...
