This museum is one of the best in all of Europe. The museum displays the collection of Calouste Gulbenkian who made his fortune in the oil business in Iraq. Sculpture, artwork and artifacts, pottery and dishware, tapestries and Oriental rugs are part of the collection. There is something interesting here for everyone.

If visiting Lisbon you must visit this museum. Very interesting, entertaining and educational.

If you have to choose one museum in Lisbon, choose that one. Big, but not too big to visit. Especially loved the founder's collection.

Good modern museum with available audioguide, downloadable to your Phone.
There is a great park, where you can rest between two expositions.

We visited the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum on our first visit to Lisbon in 2006 and had such a great experience that we wanted to visit it again. We just visited the Founder's collection - and spent 3-4 hours admiring over 6,000 pieces of exquisite items - textiles, ceramics, paintings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts and books, jewellery, coins and some gorgeous Lalique pieces. We were also really impressed with the museum café - very good food and very reasonably priced!

Great collection of art but the tour really made it worthwhile. Also lovely grounds to walk around and set for awhile. Visit the site and you will be offered a 20% discount for tickets.
