We enjoyed this smaller museum with interesting pieces. We went on a Sunday afternoon - free after 2pm. Had we paid full price, I might not have been as pleased with the experience.

Gulbenkian’s ecletic and tasteful art collection beautifully displayed. A lesson for today’s billionaires on how to invest in art and share beauty.

Gulbenkian had the money to collect some great art and some excellent art and then he donated it to the city. Totally unexpected to find diverse things like a Rodin, a dela Robbia, French Empire furniture, ancient Greek coins, etc., all in one place. A highlight is the collection of Lalique jewelry in its own display room. Fabulous stuff. The only kick is that the cafe is too small for the crowds that want to eat there. Scramble for a table. Be advised that they do not call taxis but there is a kiosk in the next building to call one, or get lucky and catch an arrival.

Start with the garden, actually more of a small park with magnificent landscaping. Then go into one or both of the museums.. you may also have a nice meal on the premises, though these tend to be somewhat crowded.
