This little museum did not seem to be high on the tourist route through Lisbon’s sites & attractions. In fact the guidebooks I used did not even give it any space. However, because of its name and promise of things Asian – and my affinity for such exhibits – I decided to give it a shot. It sits along the working waterfront between the old town and Belem. It is a gem of art & artifacts from East Asia & India. The quality & quantities of exhibits from each particular area actually mirror Portugal’s trade involvement with those parts of the world – China, Japan, India, Malaysia, etc. They had one of the largest collection of snuff bottles I have ever seen. To me, many very, very interesting & beautiful things. Well worth the visit as it is an excellent, compact collection of Asian art, ceramics, and other artifacts.
