“Helpful staff, nice breakfast, excellent location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2012

Stayed for a week at beginning of March. Hotel located just off Av. de Liberadade in between Marques de Pombal and Avenida Metro stations. Walk downhill to Rossio from hotel is approx 10 mins. Many buses pass nearby too. Hotel staff very friendly and informative regarding how to get to places. Note that the metro and some buses stop fairly early at around 8.30pm so plan to get back via taxi or late buses if you're out after then. Breakfast was filling and replenished efficiently, and includes pasteis de nata, however the best ones are found in Pasteis de Belem! Room was a bit small but clean and modern and a steal in comparison to the 4 and 5* ones opposite! Only negative: free Wi-Fi in reception was really slow on my iPhone!

Tip: Go to Sintra using the train from Rossio. Visit Sintra incl. the palace, then get the bus from Sintra to Cascais via Cabo de Roca (scenic route). Cascais is a lovely town & has some great fish restaurants - then hop aboard the express train to Lisbon's Cais do Sodre Station (30 mins, only Eur 2.10 per person)

Room Tip: Book directly via hotel website to get the cheapest deal.

Hotel was very easy to get to. I caught the Number 1 Aerobus from the airport and it got me to Avenida da Liberdade in about 20 minutes. If you do get the bus from the airport, you may want to get off at the Marquis de Pombal stop and walk down the hill to the hotel. The Avenida da Liberdade stop is some way down and then you are walking uphill although it is quite a gentle slope compared to the other hills in Lisbon! *KEEP YOUR BUS TICKET*. The aerobus ticket allows 24 hours free use of the trams, buses and funicular railways so don't throw it away!

I found the staff at the hotel very helpful and accommodating. They were able to direct me where to go and even suggested a restaurant to eat out on the first night. I was given a corner room on 7th floor which is one of their bigger rooms. I had a little difficulty with connecting the computer to the internet but a member of staff managed to get it working for me. The room was reasonably comfortable although I would have preferred a softer bed.
Breakfasts included various breads, cold meat and cheese, some fresh fruit (pineapple, diced fresh oranges, melon), coffee, tea, chocolate etc. There were some scrambled egg, sausage and bacon kept warm although I decided to avoid this latterly as I was coming down to breakfast late. I prefer cooked food to be done fresh rather than left warm on the side. I did not go hungry at breakfast so I was quite satisfied with what was available!
When I booked, I was wondering whether I should have chosen another hotel nearer to the central area. However the location was great. Right next to the Marquis de Pombal Metro entrance (nearer entrance to metro in Avenida da Liberdade tends to close at weekends and late evenings so you have to walk to the other entrance nearer to Praca Marques de Pombal. Still not so far to walk). This allowed me to get down to the downtown area quite easily and also get to Rato in Barrio Alto for the bars and restaurants. El Cortes Ingles is only 2 stops away at San Sebastiao where there is a big shopping complex including restaurants and multi-screen cinema.

Although from the outside you wouldn't notice the hotel, from the inside it looks rather nice. Clean and well designed rooms, very good breakfast and a great location.

My girlfriend and I staid here for four nights early March 2012. Upon arrival, we received a surprisingly warm welcome by concierge Ruben and the two ladies at the reception. Without even having asked them for any help, all three of them did their upmost best in giving us sincere advice to get the most out of our long weekend in Lisbon.

Highly recommended for both city trips and business.

This is clean, comfortable no-nonsense 3-star hotel that is perfect for a mid-budget visit to Lisbon.

Price – certainly when we visited in Feb 2012 – was very reasonable.

The basics are fine. Clean room, with mini-bar, security safe (free) and satellite TV that boasted an impressive number of satellite channels. Rooms, however, are a bit on the small side, as is the bathroom. Fine if you’re out and about the town during your visit, but not ideal if you want to spend time chilling out in your hotel room.
Breakfast is reasonable cold buffet fare (though no cooked breakfasts), and the breakfast room did get a bit crowded on occasions.

Location is excellent. It’s a reasonable walking distance from the main downtown area. There’s a metro stop just around the corner, and lots of buses whizzing up and down the central Avenida. Also, taxis in Lisbon are plentiful and cheap.

A minor warning. There’s another Dom Carlos hotel nearby – where our taxi driver brought us by mistake one evening. Fortunately, it’s not too far away, but be careful when giving instructions.

Staff were very polite and helpful – though the receptionist gave us wrong information about buses to the airport, which caused a certain amount of grief on our departure. Nice looking girl, though.

Room Tip: Inside rooms are better - no traffic noise

I've stayed there just for one night. It is well located, the downtown is just 10c-15 minutes walking. The room is small, but very clean and quiet comfortable. nothing special, just recommend!!
