We stumbled onto this one night eating at an outdoor cafe opposite this site. We went back the next day, spent a while finding it again in daylight, then went on a guided tour with and english speaking super knowledgable and informative guide. This was not on our radar of things to do but ended up being one of the best things we did in Lisboa. It is an archeological excavation under a bank with relics in remarkable condition, and it didn't cost a thing to join in the tour. A fantastic highly recommended thing to do.

We walked into this place (which is not that easy to find) without a reservation, and got accepted into a tour right away. They do tours in English and Portuguese. Our tour guide, Isabella, was friendly, fun, and very knowledgeable. It was facinating to learn about the history of this site! I highly recommend it!

The visit is free, and yet, Milennium bank put an amazing amount of effort into the preservation of the site and making it accessible to the public. It's not Disneyland so kids might not appreciate it unless parents do their share to instill some appreciation into a glimpse into life of 2000 years ago.
The site is smack downtown so very easy to incorporate into other things to see downtown. Make sure you make reservations in time.

Yep! Under the streets of Lisbon and under a bank, we joined a docent and walked down steps to see fascinating archaeological ruins. Not easy to arrange the tour, but we were so glad we did! Remarkable!

We stumbled across this on trip advisor and realised it was in the street we were staying on and we hadn’t even noticed it.
You need to call to book on a free tour (the guides don’t even accept tips so it’s really free!!!)
Really knowledgable guide (3pm 22nd April) and a really interesting place to visit and learn about the various periods in Lisbon history.
Not good for those who need assistance and lots of bending and steps but otherwise I’d definitely do it...

Somewhat hidden on a side street (rua dos Correeiros) in central Lisbon just 1 block from the tourist traffic on Rua Augusta and close to the famous Arco da Rua Augusta - is this fantastic find to see a Roman factory under the city. We were fortunate to literally stumble on the start of an English tour. Our guide was exceptional and the museum is top notch. It’s free and takes about 45minutes. Watch you head and all of those lose items (phones and sunglasses) during the walk underground. One of the most interesting sights we saw during our trip and completely overlooked by the masses on Rua Augusta. Sweet find!
