This is a lovely hotel plus a great location. We loved it. They offer a welcoming living area with Nespresso, and pastries as well as beer wine and other beverages. The pool was lovely but not as warm as we’d preferred. The rooms are large with modern touches. Ours had a view, a kitchen area and a large bathroom. Very nice personnel and service. We would definitely go back.

My family stayed at Casa Balthazar for six nights in December 2019, including Christmas. We were so pleased with the stylish, comfortable accommodations and friendly, helpful staff. We had two rooms - the Pool Room and the Duque Suite. Both were wonderful. The staff graciously made reservations for our Christmas Eve and Christmas meals and had helpful tips. The Casa is located just off Largo do Carmo near the historic Convent do Carmo and within walking distance of many neighborhoods and sights. I recommend Casa Balthazar without hesitation. Thank you for making us feel at home.

As Lisbon becomes increasingly busy - the Americans and Chinese seem to have “discovered” Portugal at the same time - it becomes harder to find somewhere to stay with warmth, friendliness and tranquility. Casa Balthazar - formerly a family residence - offers a quiet retreat with large rooms, a small pool, a delicious breakfast and a lovely welcome from the helpful team which manage the hotel. Unreservedly recommended. CS.

I stayed three nights at Casa Balthazar. It was absolutely fantastic in all regards! The staff were beyond helpful (and helped talk to my Uber driver at one point who had trouble finding the entrance). The room was modern but felt cozy with a historical flair. The property was well maintained. The in-room breakfast every morning was delicious (though I would have preferred a bit more protein than all the carb heavy food). Without a doubt, I would and plan on staying here again.

I booked this hotel because I saw the reviews of the hotel and that I thought the location of the hotel was good. The property was a very private property with a locked door on a quiet street.
The décor and furniture were outdated. The location of Casa Balthazar was not that close to the city center. I saw that The Story Hotel was a hotel closer to the city center and Rua do Comercio (The gate near the ocean). The price of Casa Balthazar almost doubled our hotel in Porto. I booked the room with breakfast and the breakfast was only a continental breakfast with no eggs. One thing to note in the room is that the safe was in the night table beside the bed which I found not reasonable as all safe is normally located close to the closet in most of the hotel rooms so that when you clean your clothes in the closet you would also clean your safe. When I found out that I forgot my passport and money in the safe when I checked out of the hotel and arrived in the Santa Apolonia Cruise Terminal, we called the receptionist. The receptionist confirmed that our passports and money were left in the safe and did not offer to bring the belongings to the Cruise Terminal. So that was our last impression of the hotel. Afterall the hotel stay was pleasant but we did not find the hotel’s location and services to be particularly amazing that match the price of the hotel for 534 Eur for 3 nights. I would not come back to this hotel.
