Owner description: Vintage trams take passengers on a scenic trip from the city center at sea level up through the narrow maze of streets towards St. George Castle.

During our few days we had a lot of rain. We queued for no 28 tram, paying on board. We thought it was a circular tour, but it was one way. As it was raining the tram steamed up so you couldn’t see anything. You can take it from the square to the castle, but still same price. Not sure where we ended as we didn’t get off at the castle. You have to pay again to get back. Seating is for about 24, very hard. On our way back we stood all the way. They certainly cram you in. A disappointment really, but we rode the famous 28.

The way where the tram goes covers most of the city’s ancient and current spectacular views. Sometimes impossible for a tram to go!:)

Tram 28 is crowded (often) with potential for pickpockets (very true). But it’s also a blast. So travel on it early in the morning (before 9) or later in the evening (after 8) and crowds will be gone and it will be safer.
It is worth doing... just be a little thoughtful and careful.

I joined a line of about 200 people expecting to wait a while but eventually I gave up.

I spent an hour in this line of people that only seemed to move when people in front of us gave up and left. I spent an hour standing listening to beggers asking for money, people trying to sell me sunglasses, tuk tuk drivers insisting they provided the best tour in the city and tram conductors trying to get money for a ticket (most likely knowing people would leave if they hadn't paid money already).

I never actually got on the tram so cant comment on that but please expect to be waiting here a long long time.

Definitely worth the experience, but as in any other crowded tourist spot, take care of your valuables.

Even more importantly, have some respect for the other people on the tram. This tram route is used by local people. We stood in the tram and watched young, clearly fit tourists sitting and not having the sensitivity to even offer their seats to others who were clearly less able to stand.
