One day on our trip to Lisbon, it rained so we looked for something to do and came upon this which was near by. It's one of those museum's where you put on head phones and walk from room to room. It was really interesting. I sort of wish I'd gone before so I could have explored some of the places.
The pure genius of the man who rebuilt Lisbon after the earthquake, who's forward thinking makes you think "is time travel possible?" Just putting it out there lol

This is a audio guided exhibition that explains the history of Lisbon, which I think is nice and informative and I enjoyed learning about it.

The idea of quick history lesson on Lisbon was a good one and we enjoyed learning the early history up until just after the earthquake.

While the headsets were fine, it was not always clear where you were supposed to be looking. They adjusted as you moved from one part of the exhibitions to another. The trouble was that it was not clear where these divisions actually might be. So you were listening to one story and suddenly this drops out and you are into another.

There are numbers on the audio device but it was not clear if there were numbers on the exhibit itself - it would be useful if there was.

The earthquake story was very good and the rebuilding coverage interesting, too.

At the modern bit at the end, they showed photos of the grand square being used as a large car park in the 1960s - quite a shock and glad its used better today.

In terms of getting there, it is immediately on your right as you exit the Metro Terreiro du Paco stop. We missed it on the first walk by as we were looking at the square.

This was a last minute decision to visit this place, but was well worth it, it takes you on a guided tour of the fall and rise of Lisbon.
With a well narrated audio guide and the earthquake room it gave an insight into what events brought about a modern city, worth a visit.

We really enjoyed our journey through Lisbon’s history. It’s aimed at all the family so naturally it is kept very simple. The room that you enter to experience the earthquake is particularly good and leads to a better understanding of the devastation and loss of life. There is one bit where the audio guide becomes difficult to follow as all the exhibits are in one section and it’s hard to tell what you’re supposed to be looking at sometimes. If it hadn’t been for that, I would have given a 5 star rating. Maybe they’ll sort it out soon. Also, like other reviewers, I felt more recent history was glossed over but I can understand why given that the population were left traumatised and that it is all still very fresh in their minds. NB There are toilets within the exhibition but they are not accessible once you have finished the tour.
